About The Position

Under general supervision, the primary role of the customer service representative (CSR) is to interact with customers, answer questions and provide information related to the services offered by the Cameron County Tax Assessor-Collector's Office. A CSR will guide customers on requirements for motor vehicle registration renewals, vehicle ownership changes, disability placards or plates, and provide necessary forms. They also assist with property tax bill questions, provide information on delinquent payment agreements, and guide customers on homestead exemption applications. The role may involve clerical and manual work such as sorting and distributing mail, reports, and documents between offices. Additional duties include sorting and distributing incoming mail, preparing outgoing mail for postage, and making interdepartmental mail deliveries. Specific duties may vary by assignment. The employee reports to the Chief Deputy or assigned Supervisor. The CSR provides general information regarding Tax Office procedures to the public, answers the telephone, and assists taxpayers. The role may require performing other duties to ensure the County Tax Office's commitment is met as required by the Tax Assessor/Collector, including any other directed duties.

Requirements

  • Valid Texas Driver's License.
  • Must provide a no criminal record report.
  • Personable and attentive.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong verbal communicator in English and Spanish.
  • Knowledge of Texas Motor Vehicle Registration Regulations.
  • Knowledge of Texas Property Tax Laws.
  • Ability to exercise considerable independent judgment and initiative.
  • Ability to effectively express ideas in written form.
  • Ability to exercise tact and courtesy in contact with taxpayers, attorneys, business representatives, and the general public.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Computer Literate.
  • Ability to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including computers, typewriters, calculators, copiers, facsimile machines, etc.
  • Ability to lift, carry and set up equipment up to 50 pounds.
  • Visual acuity, speech and hearing, hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate a computer and office equipment.

Responsibilities
