About The Position

The Ontario SPCA and Humane Society is a registered charity that has been operating for nearly 150 years, providing care, comfort, and compassion to animals in need across Ontario. The Society values all animals and advocates for their respectful and kind treatment, striving to keep pets and families together through various community support services. The Customer Services Assistant (CSA) is responsible for daily interactions with the public, including customer service, telephone reception, managing the centre email, foster and volunteer coordination, social media, adoption procedures, cash handling, and donation processing. CSAs are considered centre experts in applying Meet Your Match principles for all adoptions, ensuring the adoption process runs effectively. They provide superb customer service to the public, including donors and volunteers, and ensure compliance with the Centre’s policies and procedures. This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) program, which supports youth aged 15 to 30 by providing paid summer work experience and opportunities to develop skills for the job market.

Requirements

  • Be aged between 15 and 30 years old on the start date of the job
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN)
  • Be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada, or a person who has been granted refugee status in Canada

Responsibilities

  • Greeting visitors and seeking client information to support/understand customer needs
  • Advising the public in a variety of ways including general inquires, adoption counselling, retention counselling, relinquishment counselling and general animal care questions
  • Assisting the public with adoptions and adoption inquiries and acting as a resource for centre visitors seeking information on the adoption program
  • Ensuring adoptive family is adequately informed of the needs of the animal, including follow-up care behavioural queries and/or rehabilitation requirements.
  • Supporting the foster program by providing supplies and setting up appointments with foster parents.
  • Participating in animal care duties including general cleaning, enrichment and behavioural care
  • Performing general clerical duties and record keeping
  • Providing instruction, coaching and mentoring to volunteers and foster parents
  • Processing service/adoption payments
