About The Position

The Bureau of Motor Vehicles oversees driver and motor vehicle licensing and registration and continues to make services more convenient, efficient and cost-effective. This role may involve unusual working conditions, such as being confined to a desk answering the telephone for 6.5-7 hours per day, and may require working second or third shifts and weekends in units with 24-hour/7-days-per-week operations. A BCI/FBI fingerprint check and background check may be required for selected applicants.

Requirements

  • 9 mos. trg. or 9 mos. exp. in office practices & procedures.
  • 9 mos. trg. or 9 mos. exp. in public relations or customer service that included techniques for handling difficult people.
  • 9 mos. trg. or 9 mos. exp. in typing, keyboarding, data entry or word processing.
  • 9 mos. trg. or 9 mos. exp. in operation of personal computer.
  • Equivalent of Minimum Qualifications for Employment noted above.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to inquiries, requests for information &/or complaints that require in-depth knowledge of applicable laws, rules, policies & procedures as they pertain in given situation.
  • Respond to telephone &/or written inquiries in a professional & timely manner.
  • Process request for items related to vehicle registration.
  • Provide assistance & information to customers, business people, government agencies & the general public in reference to vehicle registration.
  • Respond to requests & inquiries received via telephone & U.S. mail in response to applications that may have been rejected due to incomplete information or monies received.
  • Operate personal computer by key entering information into computer file to generate a registration.
  • Verify applications, checks & money orders keyed in vehicle registration/driver's license (VR/DL), or Business Applications Service System (BASS) for completion, errors or duplication of work.
