We are seeking a talented Customer Quality Engineer (CQE) to join our team in Elgin, IL, on a full-time basis. This role offers an excellent opportunity for career growth within Flender. The CQE will ensure and improve product and process quality within their assigned business area (Wind, Industry, and coupling service and assembly). This includes implementing quality requirements for preventive actions, technical specifications, and product/process approvals. The CQE will serve as the primary quality contact in cross-functional teams and for assigned areas concerning product and process quality. Duties also encompass supporting projects and initiatives to optimize plant performance, efficiency, and safety.

Requirements

  • Experience working with cranes and focus on safe work practices.
  • Engineering Degree (Mechanical or equivalent)
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Possess technical knowledge and assembly with Gear Drives (Winergy and / or Multi-Brand) preferred.
  • Ability to analyze customer’s technical specifications, mechanical drawings, dimensional tolerancing and data comprehension.
  • Excellent team player with ability to work independently and perform and prioritize multiple, simultaneous tasks while maintaining excellent customer service.
  • Excellent communications skills to effectively and accurately communicate with internal and external customers.
  • Proficient PC skills including Microsoft Office tools, Outlook, SAP (a plus), TeamCenter (a plus).
  • Familiarity with ANSI, ISO, DIN and NEMA standards.

  • Six Sigma Green Belt preferred, with proven analytical approach to improve quality and introduce sustainable cost improvement projects.
  • APQP4Wind or automotive APQP Experience (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Drive competencies in quality-related analyses, concepts, methods, and tools for management decision-making.
  • Advise management on specific quality-related issues.
  • Ensure and implement quality-related standards, guidelines, and programs.
  • Analyze the working environment and propose improvements to management.
  • Stay informed about industry and legal trends.
  • Drive and coach general quality projects within the unit.
  • Contribute to budget planning processes.
  • Train employees in specific quality areas.
  • Coordinate quality-related staff without direct leadership.
  • Ensure effective cooperation with internal and external stakeholders and clarify issues.
  • Be responsible for final product quality prior to shipment.
  • Provide corrective actions in 8D format for systemic issues.
  • Lead the final inspection process to meet factory cycle time requirements for timely shipments.
  • Create Certificates of Conformance and upload gearbox documentation to customer sites.
  • Create and align with customers on deviation requests.
  • Interact with customers to resolve all quality issues.
  • Lead the process for product returns, rework, root cause/corrective action, and replacement.
  • Develop strategic relationships with customers to improve Critical to Quality (CTQ) results and corrective actions.
  • Interact with Production to evaluate the origin of assembly line issues.
  • Determine if internal or supplier nonconformance corrective action is required by identifying root causes.
  • Create Quality notifications in SAP and provide necessary documentation to internal departments and suppliers for all quality issues.
  • Interact with Production/Purchasing to facilitate the replacement of discrepant material for the assembly line.
  • Update Work Standards as provided by the parent office to maintain correct revision levels.
  • Be responsible for the disposition of parts placed in quarantine to maintain inventory target rates and cycle time.
  • Prepare bi-monthly reports from SAP to summarize tasks required for nonconformance resolution.
  • Prepare for and lead customer audits.
  • Interact with ISO, Intertek, and parent office auditors to maintain certifications.
  • Report on monthly metrics for first pass yield and product nonconformances.
  • Develop and lead internal process audits.
  • Develop and report on Quality-related KPIs.
  • Prepare PPAPs, MPP-PQPs, and FMEAs.
  • Conduct MSA.
  • Review customer's Quality specifications and support product qualification requirements.
  • Handle specific software used for QA purposes.
  • Participate in problem-solving to improve efficiency.
  • Contribute to goal setting for specific projects as required.
  • Maintain documentation compliant with ISO regulations.
  • Support production in quality-related issues.
  • Manage priorities to meet business needs.
  • Confer with engineers or other personnel to implement operating and other process procedures, assist in resolving system malfunctions, or provide technical information.
  • Participate in research that tests or analyzes the feasibility, design, operation, or performance of equipment, components, or systems.
