About The Position

The Customer Engagement Associate provides first-rate customer and donor service, maximizes sales, and supports the store’s daily operations. The role helps ensure that store standards and policies are followed, staff and volunteers are trained, and merchandise is handled and presented appropriately. The associate may open and close the store when the Store Manager is absent and works with management to support daily priorities, sales goals, promotions, and merchandising.

Requirements

• Basic mathematical skills, including adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing, and calculating percentages.
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and web-based email applications.
• Flexible schedule; weekends and holidays are required.
• Ability to stand, walk, kneel, and bend for long periods and lift up to 40 pounds.

Nice To Haves

• Prior retail experience.
• Experience or knowledge of a thrift store environment.

Responsibilities

• Open and close the store in the absence of the Store Manager.
• Use Housing Works’ tools to help ensure store operations and standards are met.
• Ensure compliance with Housing Works’ policies and procedures.
• Review the store environment continuously to identify opportunities to improve operations and merchandising.
• Ensure the store uses daily focus for staff and volunteer deployment, sales goals, special promotions, and daily tasks.
• Work with management to train and develop employees and volunteers so they understand standards, organizational goals, and direction.
• Ensure staff and volunteers are thoroughly trained in register operations, visual merchandising techniques, and store maintenance standards.
• Demonstrate proper care, handling, and maintenance of donations, store merchandise, and interior fixtures.
• Ensure the store is merchandised according to Housing Works standards, including creating engaging displays, promoting upcoming events, and executing floor plans that feature premium-quality products.
