About The Position

The Customer Data Engineering Lead will lead customer data engineering for Gridsight’s US customers, owning the team, its resourcing, and the successful delivery of customer data into the platform. The role is accountable for ensuring every US customer data implementation lands on time and at quality, with the customer confident in the result. The lead will build a high-performing team and continuously improve customer implementations by simplifying processes, introducing automation, and establishing the standards, tooling, and capabilities needed to deliver faster, more reliably, and at scale. The role works closely with Product, Power Engineering, Customer Success, Data Platform, and Commercial to make realistic customer commitments, resolve implementation challenges, and apply lessons from each implementation to future work. Responsibilities also include managing US customer delivery and team allocation, forecasting capacity, leading and developing US customer data engineers, coordinating with ANZ and UK teams, aligning implementation requirements across teams, maintaining data requirements and customer exceptions, and improving the end-to-end implementation process through documentation, quality gates, automation, and impact measurement.

Responsibilities

  • Own customer data engineering delivery for US customers, including Platform Stand Ups, Refreshes, Integration Changes, and related business-as-usual data bug fixes, incidents, and investigations.
  • Own the implementation process and define clear exit criteria at each stage.
  • Act as the escalation point when customer data is late, incorrect, or blocked, and maintain honest SLA conversations about ownership.
  • Make realistic commitments on dates and scope with US Power Engineering and Commercial before commitments are made to customers.
  • Own US allocation on the CDE Weekly Schedule, assigning work to customer data engineers week by week.
  • Forecast capacity against signed and expected customer pipelines and make the case for hiring when needed.
  • Maintain Linear as an accurate record of work, following CDE conventions so stakeholders can see status.
  • Lead, hire, coach, and performance-manage US customer data engineers.
  • Develop team skills in SQL, data modelling, utility data domain knowledge, and judgement with ambiguous customers.
  • Run a clear growth progression for new Customer Data Engineers and onboard new CDE team members.
  • Coordinate with ANZ and UK teams through shared standards, written handovers, and rotating walkthroughs across time zones.
  • Bridge CDE, Product, and Data Platform, and translate implementation learnings into clear requirements for product, data platform, and operations teams.
  • Ensure the CDE team has the tooling, access, environments, and documentation needed before implementations begin.
  • Own continuous improvement of the team’s working practices and automation, including work outside standard pipelines.
  • Map the current implementation process, including steps, handoffs, decision points, effort, and elapsed time.
  • Define standards, exit criteria, templates, and quality expectations for each implementation stage.
  • Simplify the process and remove low-value steps before automating it; improve handoffs with Product, Data Platform, and customers.
  • Automate the improved process, including reusable data checks, sample-data analysis, mapping assistance, runbooks, and agent skills.
  • Keep implementation processes documented and current, and measure the impact of improvements.
  • Lead the definition and maintenance of clear, current, consistent data requirements for each product.
  • Ensure customer exceptions to data requirements are managed, agreed, and recorded.
  • Guide the team in bridging platform needs with what customers can realistically provide.
  • Lead agreement on data plans with internal teams and customers before work starts, and ensure quality gates are met before work advances.
  • Represent US CDE early in new products and implementations so scope and timelines are realistic.

Benefits

  • Highly competitive salary, equity, and comprehensive benefits package.
  • Hybrid work environment from offices in San Francisco, California, and Austin, Texas.
  • Annual retreats to the Australian mothership.
