About The Position

Under the principal’s supervision, the Custodian is responsible for cleaning and maintaining assigned school areas, ensuring they are kept in a clean, orderly, and secure condition. This role involves a variety of tasks to support the daily operations and safety of the school environment.

Requirements

  • Ability to dust, sweep, clean, scrub, wax, polish, and mop floors.
  • Ability to wash and scrub walls, lavatory fixtures, windows, painted surfaces, and drinking fountains.
  • Ability to service soap dispensers and towel dispensers.
  • Ability to sweep and hose concrete or blacktop, sidewalks, and playground areas, and rake tanbark and/or sand under playground equipment.
  • Ability to replace incandescent bulbs, reset fuses, and move and adjust desks, tables, and chairs.
  • Ability to lock and unlock doors and gates/windows.
  • Ability to gather and dispose of paper, rubbish, and debris, and empty, wash, and line refuse containers and wastepaper baskets.
  • Ability to make minor repairs to buildings, equipment, furniture, and small appliances.
  • Ability to keep simple records relative to items used and required.
  • Ability to perform a variety of custodial duties.
  • Ability to assist maintenance personnel or groundskeepers.
  • Ability to open and secure the site.
  • Ability to report observed safety, sanitary, or fire hazards.
  • Ability to shampoo carpets.
  • Ability to repair equipment.
  • Ability to move classroom furniture, school supplies, school deliveries, and school mail.
  • Ability to read instructions, gauges, and/or tapes.
  • Ability to inspect play equipment daily.
  • Ability to label all containers to CAL/OSHA specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Dust, sweep, clean, scrub, wax, polish, and mop floors in classrooms, multi-purpose rooms, bathrooms, and offices.
  • Wash and scrub walls, lavatory fixtures, windows, painted surfaces, and drinking fountains.
  • Service soap dispensers and towel dispensers.
  • Sweep and hose concrete or blacktop, sidewalks, and playground areas, and rake tanbark and/or sand under playground equipment.
  • Replace incandescent bulbs, reset fuses, and move and adjust desks, tables, and chairs.
  • Lock and unlock doors, gates, and windows.
  • Gather and dispose of paper, rubbish, and debris; empty, wash, and line refuse containers and wastepaper baskets.
  • Make minor repairs to buildings, equipment, furniture, and small appliances, including touch-up painting.
  • Keep simple records relative to items used and required.
  • Perform a variety of scheduled and required custodial duties as directed by the site administrator.
  • Assist maintenance personnel or groundskeepers in common school duties.
  • Open and secure the site on a regular basis, including setting up for special events.
  • Report observed safety, sanitary, or fire hazards to the site administrator.
  • Shampoo carpets.
  • Repair equipment.
  • Move classroom furniture, school supplies, school deliveries, and school mail.
  • Read instructions, gauges, and/or tapes.
  • Inspect play equipment daily.
  • Label all containers to CAL/OSHA specifications.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
