About The Position

The Sioux Falls School District is hiring a permanent, full-time Custodian at Jefferson High School. This position is assigned to Jefferson High School and is not subject to reassignment to another position or building. The Custodial team helps maintain a safe and healthy environment for students and staff. The role works 40 hours per week for 12 months, Monday through Friday, from 3:30 p.m. to 12:00 a.m., with a 30-minute unpaid break. Starting pay is $19.92 per hour. Benefits are available for positions of 20 hours per week or more. A post-offer criminal background check is required; new employees must also pass a pre-employment physical.

Requirements

Good attendance.
Ability to communicate and follow written and oral directions in English, with or without a communication device.
Ability to recognize equipment malfunctions.
Positive attitude toward coworkers, ability to work cooperatively, and willingness to accept instructions and training.
Ability to work modified assignments as necessary.
Ability to drive to more than one location during a work shift.
Good physical health and ability to lift 75 pounds, climb to high and difficult places, and work in those places.
Ability to pass a pre-employment physical if a new employee.
Ability to perform constant hand-eye and mind-eye coordination, standing, and walking; repetitive wrist, hand, and finger motions; frequent bending, carrying, hearing, lifting, and stooping; and occasional climbing and crawling.

Responsibilities

Maintain cleanliness of District buildings by sweeping, dusting, arranging furniture, emptying trash and pencil sharpeners, and cleaning whiteboards and chalkboards.
Wash walls, woodwork, and windows, and clean and polish metal surfaces.
Clean and maintain hard- and soft-surface floors, including wet mopping and spot cleaning.
Clean, sanitize, and deodorize restrooms and locker rooms.
Assist with maintenance of lawns, landscaping, concrete and blacktop surfaces, and playgrounds, including snow and ice removal from pedestrian walkways.
Operate heating, air conditioning, ventilation, electrical, and mechanical systems by turning equipment on or off and/or setting day/night cycles.
Assist with setups and tear-downs for school activities.
Observe and report needed repairs to equipment, furnishings, fixtures, buildings, and site areas.
Secure building rooms at the conclusion of the shift.
Work a revised schedule and substitute for other custodial staff when necessary.
Share responsibility for holiday, extended-day, and weekend activities with other custodial staff.
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.
