About The Position

The Custodian maintains a clean, safe, and welcoming school environment for students, staff, and visitors. The position performs routine cleaning, sanitation, and facility support duties while following district procedures and established safety practices. Employment is contingent upon successful completion and clearance of the district’s required background check.

Requirements

A minimum of one year of custodial, janitorial, or comparable commercial cleaning experience is required.
Ability to safely operate custodial equipment and follow cleaning and sanitation procedures.
Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
Ability to work independently, manage assigned tasks, and maintain dependable attendance.
Willingness to work the assigned schedule, including evenings or school events as needed.
Successful completion and clearance of the district’s required background check.
Ability to meet the position’s physical requirements, with reasonable accommodation where applicable.
Use required protective equipment.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Experience cleaning schools or other public facilities preferred.

Responsibilities

Clean and sanitize classrooms, offices, restrooms, hallways, cafeterias, gymnasiums, and other assigned areas.
Sweep, mop, vacuum, scrub, and maintain floors using appropriate equipment and cleaning products.
Empty waste and recycling containers and dispose of materials properly.
Clean windows, doors, furniture, fixtures, and frequently touched surfaces.
Restock restroom and custodial supplies and notify the supervisor when additional supplies are needed.
Operate and maintain custodial equipment, including vacuums, floor scrubbers, and buffers.
Follow instructions for the safe use, storage, and handling of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
Identify and promptly report safety hazards, maintenance needs, equipment problems, and building damage.
Assist with minor maintenance tasks within the scope of training and assigned responsibilities.
Set up and move furniture, equipment, and supplies for school activities and events.
Assist with building security by securing assigned doors and windows and reporting concerns.
Respond promptly to spills and other cleaning needs.
Assist with exterior cleanup, entrances, walkways, and seasonal tasks as assigned.
Maintain respectful, professional relationships with students, staff, and visitors.
Attend required training and perform other duties as assigned.
