About The Position

Excellence Community Schools (ECS) is a Charter Management Organization (CMO) supporting schools in the Bronx, NY and Stamford, CT. Position: All Custodians are responsible for ensuring that a clean, safe, and healthy environment exists for scholars, employees, and visitors. The position will be based in the Bronx, NY, and will entail cleaning the building facilities, maintenance, repair, storage, and operational needs.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D.) required.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a public school setting required.
  • Knowledge of the use and maintenance of industrial cleaning equipment and appliances is required.
  • Knowledge of safe disposal of chemical liquids and other hazardous components required.
  • Familiarity with basic landscaping and handyman practices required.
  • Attention to detail and conscientiousness required.
  • Ability to lift 50lbs required.
  • Ability to speak English required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform major repairs, fixing, and plastering of walls, ceilings, floors, doors, fixtures, and other building surfaces
  • Repair, patch, resurface, and finish plaster, drywall, and masonry
  • Diagnose maintenance and structural issues and complete repairs independently
  • Perform preventative maintenance to ensure building systems and surfaces remain in good condition.
  • Being a team lead and supporting Porters.
  • Perform routine custodial duties including cleaning, sanitizing, and waste removal
  • Operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment
  • Identify safety hazards and ensure all repairs meet safety and building standards
  • Coordinate with supervisors or outside contractors as needed
  • Set up and break down rooms or work areas as required
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
