About The Position
Under general supervision, to perform routine custodial work in the care and cleaning of a school building and grounds; to do other related work as required. This position is responsible for performing a variety of tasks in the cleaning and maintenance of school facilities to ensure a safe, sanitary, and attractive environment for students and staff. The Custodian will perform tasks such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, polishing furniture and fixtures, cleaning restrooms and replenishing supplies, emptying trash receptacles, and performing minor repairs as needed. This role also involves maintaining the cleanliness and orderliness of school grounds, including sweeping walkways and picking up litter. The Custodian may be required to operate cleaning equipment and adhere to safety protocols and schedules.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to perform routine custodial tasks efficiently and effectively.
- Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment.
- Ability to operate and maintain cleaning equipment.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the job, including lifting, bending, stooping, and standing for extended periods.
- Must possess a valid driver's license.
- Must pass a background check.
Nice To Haves
- Previous custodial or janitorial experience.
- Experience in a school or institutional setting.
- Basic knowledge of building maintenance and repair.
Responsibilities
- Clean and maintain assigned school buildings and grounds in a safe, sanitary, and attractive condition.
- Perform a variety of tasks including sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, waxing, and polishing floors.
- Dust and polish furniture, fixtures, and equipment.
- Clean and sanitize restrooms, including toilets, sinks, and floors, and replenish supplies.
- Empty trash receptacles and remove refuse to designated areas.
- Wash windows, walls, and ceilings.
- Perform minor repairs such as tightening screws, replacing light bulbs, and unclogging drains.
- Operate and maintain cleaning equipment such as vacuums, buffers, and floor scrubbers.
- Report any safety hazards or maintenance issues to supervisor.
- Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment.
- Perform groundskeeping tasks such as sweeping walkways, picking up litter, and maintaining outdoor areas.
- Follow established safety procedures and guidelines.
- Attend training sessions and meetings as required.
