About The Position

The DoSeum is San Antonio’s only museum exclusively devoted to children ages 11 and under. As the city’s premier resource for early learners, their caregivers, and their educators, we cultivate innovative thinkers capable of mastering the opportunities of tomorrow. Featuring more than 100,000 square feet of interactive exhibits—both indoor and outdoor—The DoSeum promotes constructivist, inquiry-based learning related to STEAM and early literacy. A custodian at the San Antonio Children’s Museum is unique – it involves not only janitorial duties, but also serving as an ambassador of the museum by engaging the public, when needed, while working in public areas. Reporting to the Custodian Supervisor (Nights), this is an hourly, non-exempt position which will be paid based on the hours worked. Please note that this is predominantly a night shift position. Typical scheduled hours will generally be between 4:00 PM to 12:00 AM, although schedules may vary based on operational needs. Candidates must be available to work weekends, including both Saturdays and Sundays, as this is a requirement of the position.

Requirements

High school diploma or G.E.D.
Minimum of 1 year of hands-on experience in custodial services
Knowledge of cleaning equipment and supplies needed for projects.
Ability to communicate with staff, volunteers, visitors and vendors.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule, which may include mornings, days, evenings, holidays, and weekends for events.
Ability to communicate in English, as required for daily shifts and preferred for evening shifts.
Ability to use a two-way radio.
Access to reliable transportation to work, which is located north of downtown San Antonio.

Responsibilities

Cleans museum galleries, public areas, restrooms, administrative offices, and storage areas.
Serves as attendant during programs and rental events.
Prepares all set ups with tables, chairs, and tablecloths as directed by set up diagram
Assists with break down, cleaning and striking museum programs and events.
Sweeps/mops/waxes floors, and operates other cleaning equipment, as needed.
Performs proper techniques of floor care and preparation of areas to be cleaned, buffed, stripped or wax as well as carpet cleaning.
Must be able to operate and maintain all floor cleaning/finishing equipment to include but not limited to floor buffer/burnishes, water extraction machine and carpet cleaning equipment.
Assists in ordering supplies for custodial activities.
Monitors condition of cleaning equipment and ensure that it is properly maintained and stored.
Engages the public, when needed, while working in gallery areas or if asked for information.
Ensures work is performed safely, according to the museum’s policies and guidelines.
Works as a member of a dynamic team that fosters interdepartmental communication and relationships.
Projects a positive attitude toward the organization and co-workers. Model and ensure that actions, appearance, attitude, and attendance are at a level suitable for the organization.
Serves as a positive and dynamic team player and leader—outwardly and obviously friendly—to foster intra- and interdepartmental work and relationships.
Attends all training assigned and pertaining to the position and adheres to standards and practices established in The DoSeum policies, protocols, and standard operating guidelines.
Serves as a representative of The DoSeum
Travels locally as needed.
Performs additional duties as required or requested.
