About The Position

Ruth & Naomi’s Mission is seeking a Custodian to support the Facilities & Maintenance team in maintaining clean, safe, and welcoming environments across all Ruth & Naomi’s Mission sites. This role plays an important part in ensuring our facilities remain sanitary, well-presented, and ready to support residents, staff, volunteers, and visitors each day. The Custodian completes daily cleaning routines, supports room turnovers, maintains common areas, and assists with light maintenance tasks as directed. This position works closely with the Facilities & Maintenance Lead and Facilities & Maintenance Technician and supports teams across multiple Mission locations.

Requirements

• Familiarity with cleaning chemicals, sanitation practices, and custodial equipment
• WHMIS and First Aid Level 1 certification (or willingness to obtain)
• Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain consistent cleaning standards
• Ability to safely perform physically demanding tasks including lifting up to 50 lbs
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Comfort working in shelter and recovery environments
• Willingness to respect and uphold the mission and values of Ruth & Naomi’s Mission

Nice To Haves

• Previous custodial or janitorial experience

Responsibilities

• Perform daily custodial cleaning across assigned facilities including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and sanitizing surfaces
• Clean and sanitize restrooms and high-touch areas
• Complete room turnovers where required
• Maintain floors through routine care and periodic treatments
• Maintain common areas in a clean and welcoming condition
• Support basic exterior tidiness around entrances and walkways
• Assist with minor maintenance tasks as directed
• Report maintenance needs through MaintainX or to the Facilities & Maintenance Lead
• Support event setup, breakdown, and post-event cleaning
• Assist with seasonal site needs such as snow or debris removal
• Follow WHMIS, infection control procedures, and sharps safety protocols
