About The Position

Gordon Food Service, a large family-operated foodservice business in North America with over 125 years of experience, is seeking a Custodian for its Distribution Center. This role is crucial for maintaining clean and organized operations, supporting the warehouse staff who are the backbone of the company's seamless order processing and delivery. The custodian will be responsible for general building maintenance, including sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, vacuuming, emptying trash, clearing snow, and landscaping. The position requires working in extreme temperatures ranging from -25F to 100F. No prior experience is required as training will be provided.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must be able to work holidays, weekends, and overtime as needed
  • Ability to work in extreme cold or hot conditions (-25F to 100F)
  • Must be able to read, write and communicate in English (to read labels, pick lists, scanners, signage, company website information related to benefits, updates, complete paperwork, and follow verbal instructions)
  • Successfully pass a drug test that will assess drug usage and a background check
  • Ability to read and understand information on a Material Safety Data Sheet, and adhere to safety regulations and procedures
  • Ability to work independently and within team environment
  • Must be able to operate powered industrial vehicle (PIV), vacuum cleaner, lawn mower, gardening tools and other various types of equipment
  • Must have basic computer skills utilizing windows based software
  • Powered Industrial Vehicle (PIV) certification required after hire

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the buildings to ensure clean, organized operations
  • Sweep, mop, scrub, vacuum, empty the trash, clear snow, and maintain the landscaping
  • Maintain buildings in clean and orderly condition
  • Maintain the facility and associated paperwork to meet AIB and other food safety standards
  • Sweep, mop, scrub and vacuum; may include hallways, stairs and office space within the distribution center
  • Empty trash and garbage containers and clean snow and debris from walkways
  • Perform inspections of equipment and report findings
  • Mow lawn, trim shrubbery and cultivate flower
  • May remove, charge, transport, and install hi-lo (forklift) batteries in the warehouse
  • Perform other duties as assigned
