About The Position

Hy-Vee Custodians help ensure stores are clean, safe, and welcoming for customers and employees. The role is responsible for the cleanliness and appearance of the store inside and out, maintaining equipment, and supporting a positive store environment. It requires customer service, teamwork, and carrying out assigned store duties and projects. Night and weekend shifts are required. Education and experience are not required; training is provided. Employment is contingent upon successfully completing a pre-employment drug screen.

Requirements

Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions across varied situations with limited standardization.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers accurately.
Ability to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated directions and communicate supply needs orally or in writing.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Night and weekend shift availability is required.
Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen is required.

Responsibilities

Provide prompt, friendly customer service, greet customers, learn their names, and help make interactions positive.
Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of the store inside and out through sweeping, mopping, waxing, buffing, vacuuming, power washing, scrubbing, dusting, carpet shampooing, and sanitizing.
Change ceiling lights and install or replace towel, paper, and soap dispensers as needed.
Monitor plumbing, fixtures, coolers, and freezers, and notify supervisors of issues.
Empty garbage and crush cardboard during the shift.
Unclog drains as needed and perform routine equipment maintenance.
Clean store cooling systems and filters.
Order cleaning products as needed and audit invoices for correctness where applicable.
Conduct quarterly inventory of products, including costs and amounts used.
Perform price checks, return carts from the parking lot, and sack for customers as needed.
Assist in other store areas and take on special projects as assigned.
Follow Hy-Vee policies and individual store guidelines.
Report to work as scheduled and on time.
