About The Position

The Custodian performs a variety of cleaning and minor maintenance tasks to ensure a safe and sanitary environment. This includes sweeping, scrubbing, mopping, waxing, and polishing floors. The role involves cleaning various campus areas such as classrooms, laboratories, shops, lavatories, locker rooms, blackboards, and windows. Additionally, the Custodian replenishes lavatory supplies, empties wastebaskets, removes trash, and replaces lamps and light fixtures. The position also entails unlocking and locking doors and windows, cooperating with faculty and students in moving furniture and equipment, making minor building maintenance repairs and adjustments, and assisting in setting up for events.

Requirements

Knowledge of the proper use and care of janitorial supplies and equipment.
Knowledge of safe working conditions, practices, and methods.
Knowledge of custodial systems used to track work orders.
Knowledge of two-way radio communication.
Knowledge of basic computer applications, including Microsoft Office, internet navigation, and email.
Ability to read and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the position.
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
Ability to safely operate and care for custodial equipment and supplies.
Ability to observe safety requirements and maintain safe work practices.
Ability to use custodial work-order systems and two-way radios.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
Ability to perform work requiring regular physical activity.
Must be able to safely lift or move up to 50 pounds.
Must spend more than half of the work time walking, standing, squatting, kneeling, or climbing.
A basic level of computer literacy is required, including the ability to use Microsoft Office, navigate the internet, and correspond via email.
Possession of a valid California driver’s license is required.
Demonstrated interest and/or ability in working in a multicultural/multiethnic environment.
Must reside in the State of California.
Must complete a background check (including a criminal records check) satisfactorily.
Must comply with the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act as a mandated reporter.

Nice To Haves

Equivalent to one year of experience as a custodian or janitor.
