About The Position

The Custodian position is part of the Facilities Services - Custodial Department and involves maintaining the cleanliness and functionality of various campus spaces. This role requires physical activity and the ability to operate and care for custodial equipment and supplies. The incumbent will also be involved in minor building maintenance and assisting with event setups.

Requirements

Knowledge of the proper use and care of janitorial supplies and equipment.
Knowledge of safe working conditions, practices, and methods.
Knowledge of custodial systems used to track work orders.
Knowledge of two-way radio communication.
Knowledge of basic computer applications, including Microsoft Office, internet navigation, and email.
Ability to read and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the position.
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
Ability to safely operate and care for custodial equipment and supplies.
Ability to observe safety requirements and maintain safe work practices.
Ability to use custodial work-order systems and two-way radios.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
Ability to perform work requiring regular physical activity.
Ability to safely lift or move up to 50 pounds.
Ability to spend more than half of the work time walking, standing, squatting, kneeling, or climbing.
Basic level of computer literacy, including the ability to use Microsoft Office, navigate the internet, and correspond via email.
Possession of a valid California driver’s license.
Demonstrated interest and/or ability in working in a multicultural/multiethnic environment.
Must reside in the State of California.
Must complete a background check (including a criminal records check) satisfactorily.
Must comply with CSU Executive Order 1083 revised July 21, 2017, as a mandated reporter.

Responsibilities

Sweeps, scrubs, mops, waxes, and polishes floors.
Cleans classrooms, laboratories, shops, lavatories, and locker rooms.
Cleans blackboards, windows, and Venetian blinds.
Replenishes lavatory supplies.
Empties wastebaskets and removes trash.
Replaces lamps and light fixtures.
Unlocks and locks doors and windows.
Cooperates with faculty and students in moving tables, chairs, and other furniture and equipment.
Performs minor building maintenance repairs and adjustments in laboratories, classrooms, and auditoriums.
Assists in setting up and preparing for athletic events, assemblies, and graduation exercises.
