About The Position

The Arc Jefferson – St. Lawrence invites applications from people with documented disabilities that inhibit their ability to obtain and maintain normal competitive employment. The purpose of these contracts is to provide employment opportunities to people with disabilities. The Custodian performs general cleaning tasks and maintains assigned work areas at Fort Drum. This is a full-time overnight position, typically 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., for 40 hours per week. Occasional overtime, nights, weekends, holidays, and daytime work may be required depending on contract needs. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Requirements

• Applicants must have documented disabilities that inhibit their ability to obtain and maintain normal competitive employment.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds without assistance.
• Must be capable of working on their feet for extended periods.
• Must provide their own transportation to and from the worksite.
• Must be able to read and identify MSD sheets and chemical labels and markings.
• Must be willing to learn the proper use of cleaning agents and supplies.
• Must be willing to learn proper maintenance and safety features of light and heavy custodial equipment.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in janitorial work is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform general cleaning tasks and maintain assigned work areas.
• Use high- and low-speed maintenance equipment as assigned.
• Remove trash.
• Sweep, mop, dust, and vacuum as assigned.
• Wet mop floors.
• Clean and disinfect restrooms as assigned.
• Wash windows.
• Monitor equipment use and report malfunctions or problems to a supervisor.
• Practice safety-first procedures.
