About The Position

The Custodian cleans the academy facility according to directives from the School Leader or another designated supervisor. Cleaning may include classrooms, common areas, offices, restrooms, athletic facilities, and other indoor or outdoor areas of the school building and grounds. The role also involves reporting and, when possible, promptly correcting facility safety or health concerns; following universal precautions, including blood-borne pathogen procedures; and potentially ordering or purchasing custodial supplies while following expenditure and fund-handling procedures. The Custodian works cooperatively with other staff and may coordinate work with the facility landlord. Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

• Basic reading, writing, and speaking skills sufficient to understand and carry out supervisory instructions and read and understand health and safety information, such as Material Safety Data Sheets.
• Ability to organize work to meet daily deadlines.
• Ability to perform custodial duties such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and removing trash.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to bend and twist frequently throughout the work day.
• Ability to climb stairs if required by the facility.

Responsibilities

• Clean academy facilities as directed by the School Leader or another designated supervisor, including classrooms, common areas, offices, restrooms, athletic facilities, and other indoor or outdoor areas.
• Report facility-related safety or health concerns to the School Leader and, whenever possible, immediately correct potentially unsafe situations.
• Follow established universal precautions, including blood-borne pathogen procedures.
• Potentially order or purchase cleaning materials and other custodial supplies, documenting expenditures and handling academy funds according to procedures.
• Work cooperatively with other staff members to complete assignments.
• Potentially coordinate work with the facility landlord.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
