About The Position

The Custodian performs skilled work caring for and cleaning school buildings. The position supports the school’s instructional program by keeping buildings neat and clean inside and out. The role assists with building care and cleaning and ensures cleaning and routine maintenance duties are performed properly.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Some knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment.
Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written directions.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and school staff.
Ability to read.
Ability to lift 50 pounds.
A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.

Nice To Haves

Some custodial experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Clean the cafeteria after each lunch bell by cleaning tables, realigning chairs, and mopping.
Pick up paper and trash in bathrooms, hallways, around the school, and on the grounds; clean spills and other messes.
Empty classroom trash, clean chalkboards daily, sweep classroom floors, dust rooms, and reset classrooms for the next day.
Wash desks for students and teachers and move desks and tables between locations, sometimes using stairs.
Set up and reset the cafeteria, auditorium, and library for PTA activities, special events, and meetings.
Vacuum floors, shampoo carpets, wash walls and windows, remove graffiti, and repair lockers.
Clean rooms after after-school programs have ended.
Clean bathroom stalls and mop bathrooms.
Mop and wax hallway and classroom floors.
Secure and lock classrooms and outside doors at the end of the school day.
Clean the teachers’ lounge.
Perform related work as required.
