About The Position

The Custodian/Repairperson is responsible for performing custodial duties, minor maintenance, and other miscellaneous duties to ensure that cooperative buildings and facilities are maintained in a healthy, safe, and sanitary manner. This role involves a variety of tasks related to cleaning, maintenance, groundskeeping, and general facility upkeep.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Valid Illinois driver's license
  • Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Ability to stand, walk, sit; use hands, arms, and fingers to handle, feel, or reach; climb or balance; smell, talk, and hear.
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Ability to regularly lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Must observe all safety rules and regulations adopted by CBEC.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment drug testing.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated competency in use of computer and Microsoft suite.
  • Willingness and ability to work extra and/or irregular hours as the needs of the job may require.
  • Ability to attend schools and conferences as requested by management.
  • Ability to travel on a limited basis (most trips limited to a two hundred mile radius of Bloomington; occasional other trips in the country).

Responsibilities

  • Clean building by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming.
  • Maintain storage areas and cleaning equipment, materials, and supplies in a safe and orderly manner.
  • Service, clean, and supply restrooms.
  • Gather and empty trash.
  • Dust furniture, walls, machines, or equipment in office and facilities.
  • Set up, arrange, or remove decorations, tables, chairs, ladders, or scaffolding to prepare facilities for events.
  • Clean and polish furniture and fixtures.
  • Steam clean or shampoo carpets; strip, seal, finish, and polish floors.
  • Move heavy furniture, equipment, or supplies, either manually or by using lift assistance.
  • Wash interior and exterior windows.
  • Perform minor maintenance repairs and installations, including snow removal and lawn equipment; changing oil, blades, filters, etc.
  • Manicure grounds and landscape including mowing, weed control, planting, mulching, or removing undesirable plants/shrubs.
  • Requisition supplies or equipment needed for cleaning, maintenance, and event planning duties.
  • Replace light bulbs and ballasts on a regular schedule.
  • Deliver trucks, trailers, and equipment to field personnel as requested.
  • Clean company vehicles as directed.
  • Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
  • Notify managers concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems.
  • Clear snow/debris from walkways and parking lot.
  • Maintain general service requirements of HVAC equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned.
