About The Position

This position performs tire repair and maintenance duties as well as general preventive maintenance and minor repairs on vehicles and equipment. Work may occur in the fleet maintenance facility or at various City locations. The position reports to the Trades Coordinator. (Fleet Mechanical).

Requirements

  • Extensive knowledge (minimum 2 years experience) of tire, tube, wheel, rim, and mounting system repair and maintenance for a wide range of vehicles and equipment.
  • In-depth understanding of safety procedures related to tire and wheel servicing, including compliance with legal and industry standards.
  • Strong familiarity with allowable wear limits and safety regulations governing tires, treads, wheels, and components.
  • Minimum 1–2 years experience in equipment maintenance or minor mechanical repairs; technical training or apprenticeship in mechanical repair is an asset.
  • Knowledge of automotive systems (fuel, air brakes, electrical, hydraulic, cooling, transmission).
  • Proficiency in tire repair tools and equipment; ability to interpret technical documents.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team; physically fit to lift up to 70 lbs and work in all weather conditions.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage inventory and maintain accurate records.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license required; Class 3 with “A” endorsement or Class 1A considered an asset.
  • Ability to obtain necessary permits and certifications (Fall Protection, Confined Space, WHMIS, First Aid/CPR, Overhead Crane, Forklift).
  • Willingness to work shifts, irregular hours, and in various functional areas.
  • Must be physically fit and able to work in field environments and inclement conditions.
  • Successful candidates may need to provide a satisfactory criminal record check and proof of education.

Responsibilities

  • Remove, install, inspect, and repair tires, wheels, and rims on light trucks, heavy trucks, industrial and construction equipment.
  • Diagnose tire defects, recommend repair or replacement, and maintain tire inventory and stock levels.
  • Monitor and coordinate commercial tire services provided by external suppliers, including tire recapping and specialized repairs.
  • Perform routine repairs on punctured or leaking tires and maintain tools and equipment used in tire servicing.
  • Conduct routine preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment, including lubrication, minor repairs, and inspections.
  • Assist mechanics with repairs, battery boosting, and fluid checks.
  • Replace or repair lights, charge and replace batteries, and perform minor equipment repairs.
  • Maintain accurate repair records manually and in computerized systems.
  • Pick up and deliver parts and vehicles as required.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment, including sweeping floors, clearing oil spills, and cleaning tools.
  • Follow all safety regulations under the Provincial Occupational Health and Safety Act and City of Regina guidelines.
  • Provide exceptional internal and external customer service.
  • Perform related work as required, including occasional duties outside tire repair and maintenance.
