About The Position

The Custodian I performs routine cleaning, maintenance, and upkeep of buildings, grounds, and equipment at Red Pump Elementary School. This is a full-time, twelve-month, second-shift position. Specific assignments may vary according to departmental needs. The role may also involve responding to emergencies, including inclement weather assignments, vandalism, and emergency repairs, and performing other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Minimum ninth-grade education is required. If a high school diploma is not presented, testing will assess the ability to read, understand, and apply written instructions, including work procedures, product labels, material safety data sheets, and equipment instruction manuals.
Ability to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations, including handling wet and dry mop heads and buckets of material weighing up to 50 pounds.
Ability to climb ladders in excess of fifteen feet and access lifts, scaffolding, man lifts, pallet jacks, and boom equipment, and to use back-mounted equipment.
A valid driver’s license may be required to carry out the essential functions of the position.

One year of experience in a custodial, mechanical trade, or related area.

Responsibilities

Select appropriate equipment and supplies to sweep and clean floors in shops, classrooms, offices, corridors, and other assigned areas.
Use custodial equipment and supplies, including brooms, brushes, mops, power-operated scrubbing machines, vacuum cleaners, buffers, carpet sweepers, liquid floor finishes, and dust absorbers.
Collect and dispose of trash, scrap, and garbage.
Unload supplies, deliver them to storage areas, and place them on shelves or storage racks.
Move furniture, office equipment, and other items or supplies, including heavy or bulky articles weighing up to 50 pounds.
Maintain lavatories in a clean and sanitary condition.
Sweep, mop, and scrub floors, walls, and partitions; clean and deodorize wash basins and other lavatory equipment.
Wash and clean windows, light fixtures, ventilators, and other items, including work requiring climbing above fifteen feet or erecting scaffolding.
Clean and polish desks, chairs, tables, cabinets, and other office or classroom equipment.
Assist cafeteria personnel by lifting cartons or sacks of food or cafeteria supplies.
Assist with snow removal by shoveling snow, spreading chemicals, sweeping, or as otherwise directed.
Perform lawn and playground maintenance, including spreading mulch, mowing, trimming, and weed control.
Respond and assist during emergency situations, including inclement weather assignments, vandalism, and emergency repairs.
Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
