About The Position

The Iowa Memorial Union at the University of Iowa is seeking a Custodian I to provide a safe, clean, and healthy environment within the Iowa Memorial Union. This position requires the ability to perform a high level of physical activity, including positioning oneself to move objects and working at elevated heights. The schedule for this position is 5:00 PM – 1:30 AM Wednesday - Sunday or Friday - Tuesday.

Ability to read, write, and follow directions.

Nice To Haves

Ability to communicate effectively and follow oral and written instructions.
6 months' experience working as a laborer.
3 months of custodial experience.
Experience performing labor-intensive work in a residence hall, apartment complex, hotel, hospital, nursing home or similar residential facility.
Interest in and the ability to learn basic computer and keyboarding skills; including the ability to access and draft email correspondences and the ability to manage electronic time accruals and personal absence requests. Previous experience is highly desired.
Ability to work in variety of environments.

Responsibilities

Floor work including vacuuming, sweeping, scrubbing, stripping, waxing, and buffing.
Clean and provide service to all horizontal and vertical surfaces including glass, walls, ceilings, and light fixtures; working at elevated heights is required.
Clean, sanitize and disinfect all restroom surfaces.
Use of commercial cleaning equipment.
Trash removal both inside and around the exterior of the building.
Moving of furniture, supplies and equipment.
Report and communicate repair needs for buildings and equipment.
Ability to perform a high level of professional communication with students, staff, co-workers, and visitors.
Position is required to perform a high level of physical activity including positioning self to move objects.
