About The Position

Serves on a custodial crew to maintain cleanliness and sanitary conditions at the University and on its grounds. Works in various facilities and performs a range of custodial tasks as required. This is an emergency-essential position and may require reporting to campus during emergencies or closures. The position requires a physical evaluation based on its physical demands. An offer of employment is contingent on a satisfactory pre-employment background check.

Requirements

• Six months of experience in custodial, housekeeping, groundskeeping, or food service work.
• Must complete a physical evaluation based on the physical demands of the position.
• Must have valid U.S. work authorization at the time of hire and maintain it throughout employment.
• Must provide three professional references, including each reference's name, title, phone number, and email address.
• Employment offer is contingent on a satisfactory pre-employment background check.

Responsibilities

• Perform housekeeping, manual labor, and related work in offices, classrooms, laboratories, residence hall lobbies, bathrooms, stairwells, elevators, hallways, and other assigned areas, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, scrubbing, dusting, and polishing.
• Mix routine cleaning solutions to the proper concentration.
• Empty trash and recycling containers and transport waste to outdoor refuse or recycling containers; inspect materials for recycling acceptability according to written standards; clean, decontaminate, and deodorize waste containers.
• Handle or work around hazardous materials when required, including transporting bio-hazardous waste boxes to storage for pickup.
• Perform floor maintenance and special cleaning tasks, including stripping, waxing, polishing, spray buffing, burnishing, carpet cleaning, and stain removal, using commercial equipment as required.
• Use wet/dry vacuums, carpet extraction equipment, flood pumps, and other commercial cleaning equipment as needed, including to remove flood water from buildings.
• Move or rearrange office furniture, fixtures, and laboratory equipment, and set up tables, chairs, partitions, sign stanchions, and related equipment for scheduled events.
• Wash building exteriors, windows, walls, fixtures, steps, and sidewalks using appropriate cleaning equipment and materials; check and replenish fuel, oil, and solution tanks on related equipment.
• Unlock and lock campus buildings, laboratories, offices, and rooms using assigned keys, and maintain security of issued keys.
• Maintain and clean assigned equipment; wear safety equipment or clothing as instructed; report maintenance or safety hazards and supply or equipment needs to a supervisor.
• Perform other duties necessary to maintain University cleanliness and sanitary conditions and support safe and efficient departmental operations.
