About The Position

Serves on a custodial crew to maintain the cleanliness and sanitary conditions of the University and its grounds. The position works in various facilities with a variety of functions as required. It is considered emergency essential and may require reporting to campus during an emergency or closure per PS-18. A physical evaluation based on the job’s physical demands is required.

Requirements

Six months of experience in custodial, housekeeping, groundskeeping, or food service work.
Must undergo a physical evaluation based on the physical demands of the position.
Valid U.S. work authorization at the time of hire and throughout employment.
Satisfactory pre-employment background check.

Responsibilities

Perform housekeeping and manual-labor tasks in offices, classrooms, laboratories, residence hall lobbies, bathrooms, stairwells, elevators, hallways, and other assigned areas, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, scrubbing, dusting, and polishing.
Mix or blend routine cleaning solutions to the proper concentration.
Empty trash and recycling containers; transport waste to outdoor refuse or recycling containers; inspect materials for recycling acceptability according to written standards; and clean, decontaminate, and deodorize waste containers. May handle hazardous materials, including transporting bio-hazardous waste boxes to storage for pickup.
Perform floor maintenance and special cleaning, including stripping, waxing, polishing, spray buffing, burnishing, carpet cleaning, and stain removal, using commercial equipment and cleaning products as directed.
Use wet/dry vacuums, carpet extraction equipment, flood pumps, and other commercial equipment to clean carpets, address water leaks, or remove flood water from buildings.
Move or rearrange office furniture, fixtures, and laboratory equipment; set up tables, chairs, partitions, sign stanchions, and related equipment for scheduled events.
Wash building exteriors, windows, walls, fixtures, steps, and sidewalks using power washers, pressure sprayers, commercial window-washing equipment, cleaning solutions, ladders, scaffolds, hydraulic man-lifts, or related equipment; check and replenish equipment fuel, oil, and solution tanks as needed.
Unlock and lock campus buildings, laboratories, offices, or rooms using assigned keys, and maintain security of issued keys.
Maintain and clean assigned equipment; wear safety equipment or clothing as instructed; report maintenance or safety hazards and supply or equipment needs to a supervisor; and perform other duties necessary to maintain cleanliness, sanitary conditions, and safe and efficient departmental operations.
