About The Position

Serves as a Custodial Worker at a Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA) location, performing a variety of custodial duties to maintain the store. The work is performed mostly in indoor commissary areas, with occasional outdoor cleaning tasks. The role involves exposure to cleaning agents and requires care when working with ladders, scaffolds, and powered equipment. Applicants must meet the stated federal employment conditions and physical requirements. Relevant experience may include janitorial work in retail, office, or warehouse environments, including using powered cleaning machines and common cleaning tools. Education may not be used to qualify for this position.

Requirements

Be a U.S. citizen or national; proof of citizenship is required if selected.
Meet the minimum age requirement, generally 18 years old; applicants under 18 must provide documentation showing eligibility.
Males born after December 31, 1959, must be registered with or exempt from Selective Service.
Pass identity and employment eligibility verification through E-Verify.
Receive a favorable suitability or fitness determination following a background investigation; new federal employees will be fingerprinted.
Be able to obtain and maintain clearance eligibility based on the appropriate background investigation.
Meet the physical requirements, including moving and controlling heavy equipment; carrying and setting up ladders and scaffolding; and working from them.
Regularly lift and move objects weighing up to 40 pounds and occasionally objects weighing 50 pounds or more.
Demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities relevant to the job elements: work practices; dexterity and safety; interpreting instructions and specifications; and using and maintaining tools and equipment.

Nice To Haves

Relevant experience such as janitorial work in a retail, office, or warehouse environment.
Experience using floor scrubbers, power washers, floor buffers, buckets, mops, cleaning cloths, cleaning solutions, and squeegees.

Responsibilities

Maintain an orderly and clean assigned area following general instructions.
Sweep, mop, strip, scrub, wax, and polish floors using heavy industrial powered equipment.
Remove stains from rugs, drapes, walls, floors, and fixtures using chemicals and cleaning solutions.
Wash and clean windows inside and outside the building.
Perform seasonal grounds tasks, including cutting grass, pulling weeds, and trimming bushes.
Pick up litter from the area immediately outside the building.
Remove ice and snow from sidewalks, entrance ways, and other public pedestrian areas in and around the commissary.
Assist with preparations for displays, customer appreciation sales, holiday sales, and other promotional activities.
