About The Position

This position is assigned to the Grissom Inn on Grissom Air Reserve Base, Indiana. The Custodial Worker performs a variety of basic cleaning tasks in support of lodging operations. This is a flexible position with no guaranteed hours or benefits; work may range from 0 to 40 hours per week. The schedule is irregular and may include any shift, weekends, holidays, evenings, or special situations. The incumbent maintains lodging facilities in a clean and orderly manner, performs routine and seasonal cleaning and grounds tasks, and reports maintenance needs or shortages of supplies and equipment to the supervisor. The role requires completing a background investigation with favorable results and passing a pre-employment physical. Applicants must meet the stated experience and physical capability requirements; education cannot substitute for the required experience.

Requirements

Experience using cleaning and sanitizing solutions properly.
Ability to clean and adjust powered cleaning equipment.
Ability to perform the full range of cleaning duties and follow oral and/or written instructions involving several distinct tasks or steps.
Ability to frequently move and control heavy equipment, including pushing carts weighing more than 100 pounds when loaded with dirty laundry or wastepaper.
Ability to occasionally lift and carry objects weighing 50 pounds or more.
Ability to continuously stand, bend, stoop, and reach for long periods.
Complete a background investigation with favorable results.
Complete a pre-employment physical.
Work irregular shifts, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and special situations.
Provide proof of eligibility for any preference or priority consideration claimed in the application.
Meet applicable residency and other federal employment requirements stated in the announcement; male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.

Responsibilities

Maintain lodging facilities in an orderly and clean manner.
Vacuum-clean rugs and draperies.
Sweep, mop, strip, scrub, wax, and polish floors using industrial power equipment; adjust or change equipment attachments as needed.
Dust, wax, and polish furniture, ledges, and woodwork.
Empty ashtrays and wastebaskets; polish doorknobs and other metal fixtures.
Clean glass partitions, interior and exterior windows, mirrors, and water fountains, using stepladders and extension ladders when needed.
Replace deodorizers, toilet tissue, hand towels, and soap.
Report water leaks, clogged drains, and other conditions requiring maintenance to the supervisor.
Maintain cleaning-material supplies and advise the supervisor when supplies are needed or equipment requires repair or replacement.
Perform seasonal tasks such as applying ice-control material to building entrances, shoveling snow, picking up litter, mowing grass, and watering lawns.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
