About The Position

The Department of Emergency & Military Affairs (DEMA), led by the Adjutant General, provides emergency management and military capabilities to the citizens of Arizona and the nation. The Emergency Management Division consists of three sections—Operations, Preparedness, and Financial Administration. Each section works collaboratively across the agency and with external partners to manage emergency responses and reduce the impacts of disasters. Additionally, DEMA is the headquarters for the Arizona National Guard, the primary combat reserve of the United States Military. The Arizona Army and Air National Guard provide military forces and equipment to accomplish community, state, and federal missions. Custodial position performs a variety of tasks related to routine facility cleaning. Responsibilities include providing and maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation for Facility Public Traffic Areas, Drinking fountains, corridors/hallways, restrooms, locker rooms, shower rooms, break rooms, classrooms, conference rooms, training rooms as well as facility entrance areas. Responsible for maintaining a clean and sanitary environment for all assigned areas as well as the timely and quality completion of all assigned tasks. Ensures custodial supplies are stocked and available for use and that custodial closets are inventoried and kept clean. Actively participates in promoting a continuous improvement workplace culture, through the use of teamwork, root cause problem solving, standard operating procedures, and review of performance metrics.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of custodial cleaning equipment such as vacuums, buffers, strippers, etc.
  • Knowledge of cleaning products and how they chemically interact
  • Knowledge of cleaning and sanitization procedures
  • Knowledge of safety procedures
  • Skilled in applying cleaning and sanitizing methods and techniques
  • Skilled in effectively operating and caring for powered cleaning tools.
  • Skilled in rotating and storing cleaning supplies.
  • Skilled in effectively using safety procedures to avoid injury.
  • Ability to prioritize work product
  • Ability to monitor supply inventory
  • Ability to track work/time costing
  • Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbal
  • Ability to identify and report unsafe work conditions
  • Ability to apply safety rules.
  • Possession of and ability to retain a current, valid Arizona state-issued driver's license appropriate to the assignment.
  • Must be a US citizen.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous training, education or minimum of 6 months experience performing custodial duties.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure restrooms, locker rooms, shower rooms and break rooms are cleaned and sanitized daily, trash is emptied daily. Restrooms are monitored daily and stocked accordingly.
  • Vacuum, sweep, mop carpet, vinyl floors daily and wax as required.
  • Identify work requirements, set priorities and identify needs as circumstances occur daily.
  • Ensure custodial closets and storerooms are kept clean and stocked. Ensure all equipment is serviceable and complete assignments as posted.
