About The Position

Performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled tasks to ensure the cleanliness and safety of buildings and grounds. This includes tasks such as sweeping, dusting, mopping, vacuuming, floor stripping and waxing, furniture dusting, restocking restrooms, carpet shampooing, trash removal, cleaning ashtrays, washing walls, windows, doors, woodwork, and mirrors. Additionally, the role involves shoveling snow, moving furniture, replacing ceiling tiles and light bulbs, mowing lawns, trimming bushes and shrubs, and pulling weeds. The position also requires maintaining supply inventory, requisitioning supplies, preparing and maintaining records and reports, attending training sessions and staff meetings, and performing other related duties as required. The Custodial Worker 2 operates necessary equipment like vacuum cleaners, buffers, scrubbers, and snow blowers, and utilizes cleaning tools and agents. Routine maintenance and repair tasks, such as cleaning, adjusting, and lubricating equipment, and cleaning/changing filters, are also part of the job. The role may involve assisting maintenance personnel with major repairs and performing ground maintenance. Demonstrating regular and predictable attendance and performing duties of co-workers as required are essential. The position may involve standing for long periods, lifting heavy objects, working in extreme temperatures, in awkward positions, or on ladders, and working outdoors in inclement weather. The role requires lifting up to 50 lbs without a material handling device and the ability to use and wear personal protective equipment, including respirators, safety glasses, body harnesses, arc flash clothing, fire-rated shirts, earplugs/muffs, and hand protection. There are also maximum weight requirements for ladders.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 1 year semi-skilled custodial work experience or equivalent
  • Demonstrable ability to perform moderate to heavy physical labor over extended periods of time under adverse weather conditions
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. without material handling device
  • Ability to use and wear personal protective equipment: half-face respirators/dust mask, safety glasses, body harness for fall protection, arc flash clothing level two protection (hard hat, Class 2 gloves/leather, face shield, neck protector, coveralls), fire rated long sleeve shirts, earplugs/muffs and hand protection
  • Meet maximum weight requirements for ladders (Type 1A: 300 lbs. capacity, Type 1AA: 375 lbs. capacity, including man and tools)

Responsibilities

  • Sweeps, dusts, wet mops, vacuums, strips, scrubs, and waxes floors.
  • Dusts furniture and restocks restroom supplies.
  • Shampoos carpets and empties trash.
  • Cleans ashtrays, washes walls, windows, doors, woodwork, and mirrors.
  • Shovels snow and moves furniture.
  • Replaces ceiling tile and light bulbs.
  • Mows lawn, trims bushes and shrubs, and pulls weeds.
  • Maintains supply inventory and requisitions needed supplies.
  • Prepares and maintains records, reports, and other required documentation.
  • Attends required training sessions and staff meetings.
  • Operates necessary equipment, including vacuum cleaner, buffer, scrubber, and snow blower.
  • Utilizes dust cloths, pails, brooms, and cleaning agents.

  • Assists maintenance personnel with major repair tasks.
