About The Position
Performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled tasks to ensure the cleanliness and safety of buildings and grounds. This includes tasks such as sweeping, dusting, mopping, vacuuming, stripping, waxing floors, shampooing carpets, emptying trash, washing walls, windows, and doors, moving furniture, replacing ceiling tiles and light bulbs, mowing lawns, trimming bushes, and pulling weeds. The role also involves maintaining supply inventory, preparing records and reports, attending training sessions and staff meetings, operating custodial equipment like vacuum cleaners, buffers, scrubbers, and snow blowers, and performing routine maintenance and repair tasks on equipment. Additionally, the position requires demonstrating regular and predictable attendance and performing duties of co-workers as needed.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- 1 year semi-skilled custodial work experience or equivalent
- Demonstrable ability to perform moderate to heavy physical labor over extended periods of time under adverse weather conditions.
- Meet maximum weight requirements for ladders. Maximum lbs. include man and tools. Type 1A “Extra Heavy Duty Industrial Ladder” – maximum capacity of 300 lbs. Type 1AA “Special Duty Industrial Ladder” – maximum capacity of 375 lbs.
- Ability to use and wear personal protective equipment: half-face respirators/dust mask, safety glasses, body harness for fall protection, arc flash clothing level two protection (hard hat, Class 2 gloves/leather, face shield, neck protector, coveralls), fire rated long sleeve shirts, earplugs/muffs and hand protection.
Responsibilities
- Performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled tasks to ensure the cleanliness and safety of buildings and grounds (e.g., sweeps, dusts, wet mops, vacuums, strips, scrubs, waxes floors, dusts furniture, restocks restroom supplies, shampoos carpets, empties trash, cleans ashtrays, washes walls, windows, doors, woodwork and mirrors; shovels snow; moves furniture; replaces ceiling tile, replaces light bulbs; mows lawn, trims bushes and shrubs, pulls weeds, etc.)
- Maintains supply inventory and requisitions needed supplies; prepares and maintains records, reports and other required documentation regarding work; attends required training sessions and staff meetings; performs other related duties as required and directed.
- Operates necessary equipment, vacuum cleaner, buffer, scrubber and snow blower, in order to accomplish custodial tasks; utilizes dust cloths, pails, brooms and cleaning agents.
- Performs routine maintenance and repair tasks (e.g., cleans, adjusts and lubricates equipment, cleans and/or changes filters); assists maintenance personnel with major repair tasks; performs ground maintenance tasks.
- Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.
- Performs duties of co-workers as required or assigned.
