About The Position

Under general direction, the purpose of the position is to train district custodial personnel in the safe and effective use of equipment and procedures in cleaning and sanitizing activities. Employees in this classification are responsible for providing supervisory and administrative personnel with custodial technological advances, and advisement on policies, regulations, laws and procedures governing the work. Work objective is to provide school personnel, students, and the public with an environmentally safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient place in which to work and conduct school activities. Position is subject to on-call responsibilities for address emergencies and/or critical conditions that would prevent a school from opening. Will be required to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license and maybe required to use personal vehicle in the execution of duties. Performs related work as directed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Master Custodian and Custodian Instructor Certifications through the State Department of Education
  • 6/A2 Inspector Certification
  • Certified Trainer in Propane Powered Floor Equipment
  • Three (3) years supervisory custodial work experience
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Florida driver’s license.
  • Maybe required to use personal vehicle in the execution of duties.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to internal and external customers in a timely, accurate, courteous and empathetic manner representing OCPS in a positive light.
  • Maintain effective and appropriate communication with assigned team, school administration, custodial supervisors, and District staff.
  • Provides training and instruction to custodial personnel in the safe and effective operation of custodial equipment.
  • Provides training, leadership and instruction to custodial personnel when weaknesses are observed.
  • Ensures compliance with established regulatory standards concerning safe use and application of chemical supplies (OSHA).
  • Prepares and conducts custodial certification courses in accordance with State Department of Education standards and regulations and FSPMA.
  • Prepares color coded maps and plans and implements custodial work schedules; plans and coordinates major custodial projects, such as Project Clean Sweep.
  • Determines manpower and equipment allocation requirements; evaluates new equipment and products for the purpose of providing purchase recommendations to administration.
  • Performs school site inspections for the purpose of ensuring compliance with and adherence to custodial work schedules, and applicable policies, regulations, laws and procedures and FCS work plan.
  • Prepares and distributes technical data and specifications on procedures and equipment; retrieves and delivers equipment and supplies.
  • Functions on call to address emergencies and/or critical conditions that would prevent a school from opening, i.e., vandalism, fires, flooding; performs special tasks as requested by school administration, i.e., conducting night surveillance.
  • Prepares and/or reviews various records and documentation applicable to the work, i.e., inspection reports, duty rosters, equipment and product specifications, travel records, work schedules, training reports.
  • Assists custodial crews in major projects, or as needed, as in seasonal opening or closing facility preparations.
  • Responsible for keeping up to date on current technology, as job appropriate, being used by OCPS. With the support of the district, attends training to ensure skill level in various technologies is at the level required to perform in current position.
  • Maybe required to perform daily opening and securing of assigned school facility, i.e., opening gates, unlocking, locking and securing
  • Report any non-working or damaged custodial equipment following the Facilities Custodial Services Equipment Repair Process and confirm that the repair has been completed successfully.
  • Performs non-technical equipment maintenance and non-technical equipment minor repairs on facilities equipment, such as changing batteries, squeegees, vacuum cleaner belts and bags.
  • Maintain custodial equipment in clean and working order.
  • Responsible for timely and accurate information they maintain as part of their job responsibilities.
