About The Position

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, perform custodial duties to support the maintenance, cleanliness, safety, and upkeep of City offices, restrooms, and related facilities.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of health and safety practices and the ability to maintain offices, restrooms and other building facilities in a clean, safe and secure condition.
  • Ability to use cleaning materials, equipment and methods safely, efficiently and according to pre­determined standards.
  • Ability to operate and maintain standard tools and equipment used in modern custodial work.
  • Knowledge of proper methods of storing equipment, materials and supplies.
  • Minimum of 18 years of age.
  • Successfully pass a standard background check and national fingerprint-based background check.
  • Must possess a valid Washington State Driver's License (or ability to obtain by hire date).
  • Successfully pass a driving record check.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of safety guidelines and practices.
  • Ability to handle conflict and solve problems using tact, patience, and courtesy.
  • Ability to navigate emergency situations.
  • Work with diverse groups of people in a tactful, effective, and respectful manner.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the community.
  • Follow instructions, both written and verbal.
  • Operate a variety of office equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Clean work areas, to include but not limited to sweep, scrub, mop, vacuum rugs, wash windows and walls; assist in carpet care and extraction.
  • Dust and polish furniture, woodwork, and fixtures.
  • Dispose of all garbage and recyclable materials; empty and clean waste receptacles; pick up paper; pick up trash containers and empty into large bins; maintain custodial room and cart in a clean and safe manner.
  • Clean and disinfect restrooms including floors, walls, fixtures, appliances and mirrors; clean and sanitize toilets, urinals, sinks and drinking fountains; restock supplies including paper and soap dispensers.
  • Help move furniture and equipment; assist in the set-up of equipment and rooms for special events, meetings, lectures and other events.
  • Clean shades and blinds; report repair and maintenance needs and assist others in making repairs as needed.
  • Turn lights on and off; unlock and lock doors; assist in providing security services during the performance of custodial duties; alert security personnel of unauthorized or suspicious individuals or activities on property.
  • Change light bulbs or fluorescent tubes.
