About The Position

This position is responsible for oversight of a midsized team of employees, engaged in university facility services, performed in multiple locations. Responsible for inventory, equipment, scheduling, training, and daily operations. Oversees, and assists, with the supervision of daily operations of custodial personnel as assigned, and during the absence of the supervisor or manager. Inspects University buildings for cleanliness, safety, and security. Work is performed in accordance with established policies, industry standards and procedures, and specific work assignments. Supervises, reviews, and counsels assigned staff. Oversees daily operations of custodial personnel as assigned and during the absence of the Manager. Provides job specifics to train employees regarding procedures, techniques, products, and equipment. Inspects University buildings for cleanliness, safety, and security. Inspects cleaning equipment and arranges for maintenance and repairs. Assists with scheduling for cleaning and for the opening and closing of assigned buildings as needed; monitors inventory and assures that adequate equipment and supplies are on hand. Travels between work sites by use of University vehicle for necessary calls. Serves as a Campus Security Authority for Clery and a Responsible Employee under Title IX.

Requirements

  • Three years of related experience with experience in a lead or supervisory role; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Employees in this job may be responsible for conducting research on, working on, or having the ability to access critical organizational infrastructure and they must be able to maintain the security and integrity of the infrastructure related to this role.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to keep records and complete forms accurately.
  • Ability to direct and manage the work of others.
  • Ability to apply mathematical concepts to complete tasks (example: measuring).
  • Physical ability to perform work involving standing, stooping, operating equipment, and lifting.
  • Knowledge of safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed.
  • Possession of a valid Texas driver's license, or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment; ability to drive a vehicle and maintain coverage under University liability insurance policy, if required to drive University vehicles.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to supervise numerous employees.
  • Knowledge of cleaning schedules and use of chemicals.
  • Knowledge of all equipment used in the building cleaning industry.
  • Knowledge of floor care.
  • Some computer skills such as Microsoft Office Suite or the ability to learn appropriate software.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct supervision of day-to-day operations of custodial staff.
  • Assist as needed with the training of new staff members.
  • Regularly inspect assigned facilities to ensure that cleaning standards are maintained to department standards.
  • Ensure that equipment is functional, properly maintained, cleaned after use and stored in the correct locations.
  • Identify and complete needed project work such as carpet cleaning, hard floor surface cleaning, and deep cleaning of restrooms within assigned area.
  • Maintain custodial supplies in assigned area.
  • Ensure that custodial closets are not over stocked with supplies and that supplies are properly stocked on shelves.
