About The Position

The Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Pascal Mubenga, is interested in receiving applications from qualified candidates for the position of curriculum committee members for the Grades K-12 Heritage Language Curriculum Committee. This committee will serve as needed from June 2026 to August 2026, focusing on languages including Arabic, Bengali, Burmese, Karen, Somali, and Swahili. The committee will consist of 5 days of work in June (TBD) and 5 days of work in August (TBD).

Requirements

  • Hold a New York State teacher certification.
  • Currently employed with the Buffalo Public Schools as a tenured teacher.
  • Knowledge of the Next Generation Learning Standards ELA and the Blueprint for English Language Learner/Multilingual Learner (ELL/MLL) Success.
  • Hold a valid teaching certificate in: English as a Second Language, Bilingual Education, Elementary Education, Secondary English, Special Education, or Reading.

Responsibilities

  • Developing frameworks and relevant content for Heritage Languages for Arabic, Bengali, Burmese, Karen, Somali, and Swahili.
  • Creating curriculum outlines for each grade level that are tailored to the project-based learning approach.
  • Create a teacher-friendly lesson plan to be utilized during the summer and during the school year.
  • Create teacher-made resources for translanguaging purposes for the languages Arabic, Bengali, Burmese, Karen, Somali, and Swahili.
  • Work directly with the Division of Multilingual Education and/or curriculum administrators.
  • Complete a variety of assignments within a mandated time frame.
  • Work closely with Academic Coaches and with the Division’s Resource Cultural Aides.
