About The Position

A Cultural Resource Staff III assists in the identification, evaluation, and treatment of cultural resources. A Cultural Resource Staff III is responsible for applying technical skills in archaeology to assist with all tasks related to fieldwork and reporting for the cultural resources group. A Cultural Resource Staff III is primarily a field position. This position requires working variable hours, including long days, early mornings, and weekends, depending on fieldwork schedules. Overtime may be accrued and will be compensated for at time and a half. This is a seasonal position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in anthropology or related subdiscipline.
  • An accredited field school certification.
  • 3 months of applicable experience with preference for Colorado-based experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite products and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Proficiency in digital platforms.
  • Effective written communication skills.
  • Effective field school skills.
  • Physically capable and possess the skills necessary to perform all aspects of fieldwork including strenuous hiking with a backpack in rugged terrain that could exceed 10 miles a day.
  • Ability to perform archaeological work including excavating shovel tests, lifting and carrying 50-pound buckets of sediment, and screening for extended periods.

  • Preference for Colorado-based experience.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all required fieldwork tasks including pedestrian surveys, shovel testing, and archaeological excavation.
  • Accurately recognize and interpret all classes of artifacts and features during surveys.
  • Use digital platforms such as tablets, GPS units, and Microsoft programs.
  • Effectively communicate with supervisors and display a willingness to learn new skills.
  • Conduct tasks safely and efficiently under the immediate supervision of a crew chief, field director, or project manager.
  • Conduct themselves in a professional manner in all work settings, representing ERO with respectable courteous behavior and a positive workplace attitude.
  • Assist in equipment organization and preparation for fieldwork.
  • Support crew lead, field director, or project manager with all requested field tasks.
  • Follow Health and Safety protocols.
  • Collect digital and spatial data with digital tablets, digital cameras, and GPS units.
  • Perform digital photography, as directed.
  • Enter site form data into tablets.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed notes.
  • Unload and organize equipment.
  • Upload or transfer all field data, as directed.
  • Enter site form data into ERO’s Access Site Form database.
  • Assist with completion of resource documentation, as directed.
  • Perform artifact washing, flotation, data entry, artifact analysis, artifact curation preparation, and other duties, as requested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
