Cultural Engagement Director

Function HealthUS - Remote,
Hybrid

About The Position

Function Health is seeking a Director of Cultural Engagement to own the company's presence across social channels, creator relationships, and influencer programs. This role is critical in shaping how the world perceives Function, building trust, and driving growth. The Director will lead a team of four, including three direct reports, and will be responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive cultural engagement strategy. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of culture, strong strategic thinking, and excellent operational execution skills, with the ability to identify trends, build genuine relationships, and drive measurable business outcomes.

Requirements

  • 7+ years owning social strategy, content, and creator or influencer programs at scale, ideally spanning both functions in one role.
  • A proven track record of meaningful channel growth across multiple platforms and a creator program that drove real business outcomes.
  • Experience leading and developing teams, with at least 2–3 direct reports.
  • Deep operating experience in real time: cultural moments, news cycles, launches, live engagement.
  • A genuine cultural intelligence practice: ability to explain not just what performed, but why, and what it signals about where the audience is heading.
  • Strong analytical instincts and fluency tying social and creator performance to growth metrics.
  • Experience managing creator and talent relationships across the full spectrum, organic and paid, micro and macro.

Nice To Haves

  • Reads culture the way a strategist does and executes it the way an operator does.
  • Understands not just what’s trending but why, and uses that behavioral intelligence to make defensible and ahead-of-the-curve decisions.
  • Knows when to show up in a cultural moment and when to create one.
  • Builds creator and talent relationships that are genuine, strategic, and efficient.
  • Knows the difference between influence and noise.
  • Fast, decisive, and comfortable being accountable in public.
  • Detail-obsessed, but not precious.
  • Equally comfortable in strategy decks and in the comments section.
  • Opinionated about culture and curious about what’s driving it.
  • A builder of teams, systems, and trust with talent.

Responsibilities

  • Full ownership of multi-channel social growth with an explicit mandate to drive step-changes in reach, engagement, and cultural relevance.
  • Build and execute an always-on, performance-driven social strategy that keeps the brand sacred but enables exploration.
  • Translate company priorities into platform-native content and formats across Instagram, TikTok, X, LinkedIn, Reddit, YouTube, Threads, and Facebook.
  • Personally model best-in-class real-time engagement: on brand, fast, human, and culturally aware.
  • Set the creative bar with exceptional taste and cultural judgment, creating original formats and moments.
  • Own the full talent and creator relationship strategy across organic and paid efforts, from partnership identification and vetting through ongoing management and performance.
  • Build and maintain a creator ecosystem that reflects Function’s brand values and reaches target audiences.
  • Partner with growth and performance teams to ensure influencer programs drive measurable acquisition outcomes.
  • Evaluate partnership fit through a cultural lens.
  • Negotiate and manage talent relationships with rigor, from micro-creators to high-profile partners, and build the infrastructure to do it at scale.
  • Bring a proactive cultural read to everything, anticipating where culture is heading and its implications for Function.
  • Decode the behavioral “why” behind audience actions and engagement.
  • Identify cultural moments worth owning, define conditions for Function-built moments, and develop criteria for success.
  • Apply cultural intelligence to ambassador selection, platform strategy, and content direction.
  • Map and navigate cultural tensions Function faces as it scales.
  • Lead and develop a team of five across social, talent, and creator partnerships, with four direct reports.
  • Set the direction, operating model, and performance standards for the team.
  • Raise the cultural fluency of the team and the broader organization.
  • Operate as a true strategic partner to marketing, brand, creative, growth, comms, and product.
  • Influence how stories are told and launched.
  • Communicate clearly on performance, cultural rationale, and strategic direction to leadership and cross-functional partners.
  • Define the metrics that matter across social and creator programs and hold the team accountable.
  • Tie cultural and creator work to business outcomes: acquisition, brand trust, retention, and reach into new audiences.
  • Move fast without being sloppy and own calls and numbers.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary and benefits package
  • Flexible working hours
  • Dynamic work environment where creativity and innovation are encouraged
