About The Position

The University of Notre Dame is hiring temporary, on-call Culinary Service Associates for North Dining Hall and South Dining Hall in its Campus Dining department. The role is a back-of-house position that supports food production and service and helps ensure diners have a positive experience. Associates clean kitchen equipment, remove trash, clean floors and ceiling tiles, assist with dish-room setup and operation, and perform other general assignments. They also maintain serving areas, assist with basic food preparation, replenish food items, operate basic kitchen equipment, sanitize work areas and equipment, wash and store dishware, and assist with receiving and storing food and supplies.

Requirements

• Ability to manage time effectively with minimal supervision.
• Positive, respectful attitude and commitment to the schedule created.
• Excellent communication and listening skills.
• Ability to stand for extended periods, up to six hours at a time.
• Ability to move around the café to attend to guests' needs.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the cleanliness and visual appeal of serving lines, food displays, and condiment stations during service hours.
• Assist with basic food preparation, such as washing and cutting vegetables, portioning ingredients, preparing simple salads, and assembling sandwiches or wraps as directed by culinary staff.
• Monitor and replenish food items on serving lines, and alert cooks when stock is low.
• Safely operate and maintain basic kitchen equipment, including toasters, warmers, beverage dispensers, and coffee machines.
• Clean and sanitize workstations, serving utensils, and equipment before, during, and after shifts.
• Assist with dishwashing, including scraping, loading and unloading the dish machine, and properly storing clean dishware.
• Assist with receiving, rotating, and properly storing food and supplies.
• Clean kitchen equipment, remove trash, clean floors and ceiling tiles, and assist with dish-room setup and operation.
• Participate in other general assignments.
