About The Position

The Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools (KCKPS) is seeking a CTE AV Production/Graphic Design Teacher for its Wyandotte location. This role is crucial in facilitating student comprehension and application of concepts, skills, and behaviors that contribute to the development of mature, able, and responsible members of society. The objective is to ensure continuous improvement in state and national performance levels, preparing students for college and careers in a global society. The teacher will implement 21st Century Skills into the curriculum, assess student abilities, and plan appropriate instruction and learning strategies. A key aspect of the role involves managing the classroom environment and student behavior, communicating effectively with students and parents regarding instructional expectations and progress, and maintaining assessment documentation. The teacher will also collaborate with school personnel on instructional goals, curriculum, and participate in professional development activities. This position requires maintaining accurate student records, ensuring a safe and attractive learning environment, and participating in extracurricular activities and IEP meetings. A strong knowledge of the assigned subject matter, student growth and development, and the school's program of studies is essential. The ability to plan and implement lessons based on curriculum objectives and student needs, establish effective relationships, and communicate clearly both orally and in writing are vital. Specific skills may be required depending on the subject taught, such as foreign language proficiency, musical abilities for music teachers, or journey-level proficiency for vocational trades. The role also involves adapting to the physical and emotional demands of a fast-paced environment and demonstrating patience and care for student success. Adherence to school policies, including attendance tracking and Section 504/IDEA amendments, is mandatory, along with maintaining a courteous and professional demeanor and appearance.

  • Kansas teaching certificate in area content and instructional responsibility.

Nice To Haves

  • Journey level proficiency in vocational trade if teaching in a vocational trade.
  • On-the-job journey, lead, or supervisory experience in a vocational trade is highly desirable.
  • If teaching chemistry or certain science classes, ability to use appropriate masks and filters or protective clothing as protections from harmful liquids or fumes.
  • If teaching physical education and unless assigned full time as health or classroom driver education teacher, must possess sufficient strength, dexterity, endurance, agility and skill to carry out the program of studies for the activities to which assigned.
  • If a physical education teacher, some assignments may require sufficient athletics skills to demonstrate and perform appropriate athletic techniques at both the beginning and advance levels.
  • If a physical education teacher, some assignments may require working outdoors in conditions which are moderately comfortable and require adaptation of clothes and dress to the conditions or the use of “sun blockers”.
  • If a resource teacher, assist teachers upon their request in the locations, preparation and development of materials with emphasis on reading as it relates to literacy training; work daily with teachers and students as scheduled and approved by school administration.
