The CT Technologist performs procedures in accordance with departmental protocols and standards, operating CT Scanners and associated equipment with a high level of proficiency. This includes scanner, post-processing stations/programs, IV contrast injectors, O2 and suction equipment, patient transport, and patient monitoring equipment. The role involves examining requests, verifying orders, preparing and explaining procedures to patients, documenting medical history, administering IV contrast, evaluating image quality, and performing basic patient care functions. The technologist also initiates life support measures when necessary, assists in code blue procedures, performs CT scanning, and assists Radiologists/PAs during invasive procedures. They practice proper sterile technique, adhere to infection control policies, and are authorized to obtain medication or contrast material as directed. Radiation safety for self, employees, patients, and family members is a key responsibility, as is reporting malfunctioning equipment. The role requires maintaining knowledge and skills for safe work in an environment with potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens and infectious disease, adhering to hospital fire and safety procedures, and completing required safety modules. Accurate and timely work is expected, especially in crisis situations. The technologist will rotate shifts as required, including call back, holidays, and weekends, and must adhere to the attendance policy. They will operate the radiology computer system, document contrast administration, and maintain a neat, orderly, and stocked work area. Assistance to other medical personnel may also be required.
