About The Position

The Client Support Services (CSS) program empowers Government-Assisted Refugees (GARs) to become independent and assists them with their first-year settlement needs. Under the direction of the Program Manager, the CSS Caseworker provides GAR clients with a broad base of support and resources using a multidisciplinary, case-management approach. The ideal candidate is a leader who is adept at managing demanding, high-pressure tasks.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in Social Services, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with key partners and stakeholders
  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Knowledge and understanding of refugee issues with ability to outreach to newcomer communities
  • Familiarity with programs and services available in Ottawa
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to set priorities and meet deadlines
  • Excellent presentation skills, interpersonal skills, mediation skills, and cross-cultural competence
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care and de-escalation techniques
  • Ability to apply GBA+ lens when working with a very diverse population
  • Excellent computer skills and proficiency with Office 365, PowerPoint, Excel and Social Media
  • Ability to deal with confidential material and matters, and refugees with complex needs
  • A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle

  • French and other languages are a strong asset

Responsibilities

  • Assess and respond to initial needs of GARs
  • Intensive support to vulnerable refugee clients
  • Provide interpretation and accompany GARs to facilitate access to services
  • Perform home visits and in-person follow-ups
  • Establish and maintain concrete links between GARS and existing resources in the community
  • Capacity Building: Develop outreach initiatives, educational materials and sustainable strategies that are responsive to the complex needs of GAR clients
  • Participate in activities that educate the community about the issues and barriers faced by GARs
  • Organize & facilitate workshops to orient GARs to their new community, Canadian culture & social norms
  • Evaluate client progress at the beginning, middle and end of the program
  • Maintain documentation and data entry. Prepare statistical information as required.

Benefits

  • Hourly rate: $31.61-$32.56
