About The Position

Responsible for providing all departments with decontaminated and/or sterile supplies. Responsible for the preparation, maintenance and coordination of surgical case supplies. This role involves the provision of decontamination and sterilization equipment, monitoring inventory and availability of routine and special order supplies, and maintaining the smooth functioning of the area to compliment OR staff. The technician also monitors quality testing of sterilizers and instrument loads and provides services in a cost-effective manner. Adherence to DCH Standards, including performance, patient and employee satisfaction, and financial standards, is required. Compliance with the Employee Handbook and DCH Behavioral Standards, which include creating positive relationships with patients/families, coworkers, colleagues, and self, is mandatory. The role requires the use of electronic mail, time and attendance software, learning management software, and the intranet. All DCH Health System policies and procedures must be followed, along with any other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider training required.
  • Good work and attendance record.
  • Keyboard experience and basic computer skills.
  • Must be able to take call, work weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be able to work flexible scheduled hours.
  • Must be able to read, write legibly, speak and comprehend English.
  • Must be able to deal with conflict.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and accurately.

  • Must be able to tolerate prolonged periods of standing and walking.
  • Must be able to reach reasonable distances in any direction.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, kneel, bend, sit, stoop and lift.
  • Must be able to run in an emergency.
  • Must be able to move fingers in a coordinated manner and must be able to feel and perceive temperature, texture, shape and size with fingertips.
  • Must be able to perform the duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Hearing and vision must be normal or corrected to within normal range.
  • Must possess stamina to work prolonged shift.
  • Physical presence onsite is essential.

Nice To Haves

  • Some college education and knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
  • Certification in Central Service or previous experience in sterilization is desirable but not required for initial employment.
