The CRNA (Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist) will provide all elements of pre-anesthesia, anesthesia, and post-anesthesia services, including general, regional, and monitored anesthesia care. This role is consistent with the anesthesia plan and is performed in collaboration with the surgeon, anesthesiologist, or surgical team. The CRNA manages patient conditions based on clinical indication, evidence-based care, cost-effectiveness, and assessment of risks, benefits, and alternatives. Responsibilities include participating in preoperative evaluations, ensuring equipment and supply readiness, delivering anesthesia care (induction, maintenance, support of life functions, emergence), selecting and administering anesthetics and fluids, and managing post-anesthesia duties such as pain relief and monitoring for complications. The CRNA will also manage emergency situations, maintain accurate electronic medical records, and ensure compliant coding and billing practices. Additionally, participation in quality initiatives, peer review, departmental meetings, and the education of new team members is expected. The role requires maintaining productivity, access, and quality metrics for optimal patient care delivery and demonstrating knowledge of age-specific care needs.
