Vantage Data Centers•Sterling, VA
•$38 - $55•Onsite

About The Position

The Critical Facilities Engineer is an onsite, in-house member of Vantage’s Site Operations team in Ashburn, Virginia. The team is responsible for the health of mechanical and electrical systems, building maintenance, and data-module performance at its data centers. Critical Facility Engineers work onsite across a 24/7 operation and serve as a primary point of contact for customers and a first line of defense for campus uptime. The team uses a Critical Maintenance Management System to plan and track preventative and corrective maintenance, and performs much of the work directly rather than relying on vendors. The successful candidate works independently and with other electrical- and mechanical-focused engineers to maintain and repair data center infrastructure. The role emphasizes hands-on troubleshooting, reliability, safety, customer service, and protecting uninterrupted service to customers. The position may involve formal specialty training, such as UPS maintenance, and occasional travel for training purposes.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of hands-on experience maintaining and repairing industrial electrical and mechanical systems in mission-critical facilities; 5 or more years is preferred.

  • Knowledge of operating, maintaining, repairing, inspecting, and testing critical electrical distribution systems, HVAC systems, and building management or automation equipment.
  • Ability to read commercial building blueprints and understand electrical single-line diagrams and schematics.
  • Knowledge of commonly used mechanical and electrical concepts, practices, and procedures for operating data centers.
  • Technical writing skills and experience creating, coordinating, updating, or modifying MOPs, SOPs, and EOPs for critical facilities equipment, including supporting new systems and researching technical requirements.

  • Ability to complete formal training in a specialty area, such as UPS maintenance, if required.
  • Reliable transportation for reporting to shifts or emergencies.
  • Successful completion of a background check.
  • Ability to work outside normal business hours, including weekends, late nights, holidays, and on-call support.
  • Ability to work in a high-stress, fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.

Nice To Haves

  • Develop reliability reports to ensure availability and capacity targets are achieved and maintained with 100% uptime.
  • Coordinate and oversee maintenance vendors to ensure personnel safety, protect critical facility equipment, and maintain power to the critical load.
  • Create and maintain Method of Procedure (MOP), Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), and Emergency Operating Procedure (EOP) documents so maintenance activities follow established procedures.
