About The Position

Vantage is seeking an onsite Critical Facilities Engineer in Ashburn, Virginia, to help maintain and repair data center infrastructure. This hands-on, in-house role works with a team of electrical- and mechanical-focused engineers to keep facilities operating reliably and meet customer uptime requirements. The position is suited to an industrial HVAC technician or mechanic, or someone with equivalent experience in critical cooling systems. Data center, mission-critical field service, or military experience is highly desired; relevant electrical or mechanical experience in other industries may also be considered. The Site Operations Department is responsible for the health of mechanical and electrical systems, building maintenance, and data-module performance. Site Operations staff work onsite around the clock, perform preventive and corrective maintenance, and use a Critical Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to plan and track work. The team performs much of the work in-house and works directly with customers and facility infrastructure. The successful candidate will operate and service critical data center systems, including UPSs, PDUs, diesel generators, ATS equipment, building controls, chillers, and computer-grade cooling equipment. The role includes documenting procedures, coordinating vendors, responding to safety and emergency situations, and maintaining safe operations without disrupting critical service. Travel is expected to be less than 5%, occasionally for training. The position may require work outside normal business hours, including weekends, late nights, holidays, and on-call support.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of hands-on experience maintaining and repairing industrial electrical and mechanical systems in mission-critical facilities; 5 or more years is preferred.
  • Experience with systems such as emergency generators, fuel delivery systems, parallel switchgear, MV/LV switchgear and controls, critical and essential PDUs, UPS, HVAC, air-handling units, computer-grade cooling systems, and building monitoring or control systems.
  • Knowledge of operating, maintaining, repairing, inspecting, and testing critical electrical distribution systems, HVAC systems, and building management or automation equipment.
  • Ability to read commercial building blueprints and understand electrical single-line diagrams and schematics.
  • Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures related to the mechanical and electrical systems needed to run data centers.
  • Technical writing skills and experience creating, coordinating, updating, or modifying MOPs, SOPs, and EOPs for critical facilities equipment, including supporting new systems and researching technical requirements.
  • Electrical or mechanical field work experience is highly desired; strong technical skills and training are emphasized, with intent to obtain a license within a reasonable time.
  • Reliable transportation for reporting to work for shifts or emergencies.
  • Ability to complete a background check successfully.
  • Willingness to work outside normal business hours, including weekends, late nights, holidays, and on-call support.
  • Ability to work in a high-stress, fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.
  • Ability to meet the role's physical demands, including standing, walking, sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, using hands, and lifting up to 50 pounds.

  • Electrical and mechanical expertise from non-mission-critical field service or other industries, such as chiller work with larger-tonnage equipment or OEM equipment field service.
