The Critical Engineering Technician (CET) will conduct hands-on operations and maintenance in a critical facility environment, including installation, repair, and maintenance of electrical, mechanical, and plumbing/piping equipment. This role involves monitoring operations, performing routine assessments of building systems, and conducting tests to ensure proper equipment functioning. The position requires strong conduct of operations skills, technical expertise, personal accountability, and adherence to safety standards in a high-risk environment, aiming for exceptional customer satisfaction.

Requirements

High School diploma or GED equivalent.
3+ years of experience in critical environment operations, maintenance, and/or engineering supporting critical facilities.
Strong knowledge of workplace safety requirements and regulations, including OSHA, NEC, NFPA 70E, EPA regulations, and refrigerant handling practices.
Strong knowledge of HVAC and cooling infrastructure, including chilled water systems, CRAH/CRAC units, condensers, refrigerant cycles, system design, operation, preventive maintenance, and corrective repairs in critical environments.
Strong understanding of critical infrastructure, redundancies, failover systems, Tier classifications, and power and cooling requirements for critical IT loads.
Knowledge of escalation procedures, root cause corrective analysis (RCCA), and effective communication of critical issues in a critical environment.
Knowledge of CMMS, BMS, DCIM, and EPMS platforms.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Visio) and Adobe applications.
Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation.
Experience overseeing and coordinating vendor work.
Knowledge of fire protection and security systems and procedures in a critical environment.
Strong written communication skills, including the ability to develop detailed MOPs, SOPs, and EOPs.
Ability to perform hands-on repairs and maintenance of electrical systems in a critical environment.
Ability to participate in an on-call rotation and respond to critical issues as required.
Ability to work a 24x7 shift schedule, including 12-hour shifts, in a critical environment requiring sound judgment and decision-making under pressure.
Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting and moving equipment up to 50 pounds, operating critical infrastructure, crawling in confined spaces, and manipulating small wires and components.
Ability to work at heights, use ladders, and perform extended site rounds involving significant walking and prolonged periods away from a desk.
Ability to work in industrial environments, including exposure to high noise levels requiring the use of hearing and eye protection.

Responsibilities

Maintain, monitor, and perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on critical equipment, including mechanical (HVAC, CRACs, chillers, plumbing), electrical (UPS, DC battery systems, PDU, generators, transfer switches, switchgear), cabling, fire detection and suppression, life safety, lighting, temperature control systems, building management systems, and digital systems.
Operate and maintain non-critical equipment such as refrigeration, heat exchangers, HVAC, electrical, and hot water systems.
Monitor operations, adjust, and maintain refrigeration, chilled water, and air conditioning equipment; boilers; ventilating and hot water heaters; pumps, valves, piping, and filters; and other mechanical and electrical equipment.
Record readings and make adjustments as necessary to ensure proper equipment operation.
Write Method of Procedures (MOPs), Emergency Operating Procedures (EOPs), and oversee their execution.
Perform all work in strict accordance with Stream Data Centers critical operating procedures, standard operating procedures, and maintenance work instructions.
Read blueprints and schematics to effectively resolve equipment issues.
Oversee all work efforts, including third-party contractors, for the safe and compliant operation, maintenance, and modification of critical equipment.
Disable and enable fire alarm control panels and systems.
Create and execute work orders through the CMMS for preventative and corrective maintenance on critical systems and the building's physical structure.
Consult with the Critical Facilities Manager to order necessary materials for maintenance and repairs.
Finalize work orders by completing necessary documentation in the CMMS.
Ensure all preventive and corrective maintenance records are reviewed and stored properly.
Be available to cover 24/7 onsite shifts in the event of unplanned emergencies.
Respond to on-call issues and escalate to the Critical Facilities Manager.
Perform BMS operations and analyze data to ensure proper function of all critical systems.
Analyze power and cooling efficiency and maintain adequate PUE throughout the facility.
Perform Root Cause Corrective Analysis (RCCA) and report findings to the Critical Facilities Manager.
Comply with Stream Data Centers departmental policies and HSE policy and procedures.
