The Critical Engineering Technician role involves hands-on operations and maintenance in a critical facility environment, including installation, repair, and maintenance of electrical, mechanical, and plumbing/piping equipment. This role requires strong conduct of operations skills, technical expertise, personal accountability, and adherence to safety standards to ensure exceptional customer satisfaction.

Requirements

High School diploma or GED equivalent.
3+ years of experience in critical environment operations, maintenance, and/or engineering supporting critical facilities.
Strong knowledge of workplace safety requirements and regulations, including OSHA, NEC, NFPA 70E, EPA regulations, and refrigerant handling practices.
Strong knowledge of HVAC and cooling infrastructure, including chilled water systems, CRAH/CRAC units, condensers, refrigerant cycles, system design, operation, preventive maintenance, and corrective repairs in critical environments.
Strong understanding of critical infrastructure, redundancies, failover systems, Tier classifications, and power and cooling requirements for critical IT loads.
Knowledge of escalation procedures, root cause corrective analysis (RCCA), and effective communication of critical issues in a critical environment.
Knowledge of CMMS, BMS, DCIM, and EPMS platforms.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Visio) and Adobe applications.
Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation.
Experience overseeing and coordinating vendor work.
Knowledge of fire protection and security systems and procedures in a critical environment.
Strong written communication skills, including the ability to develop detailed MOPs, SOPs, and EOPs.
Ability to perform hands-on repairs and maintenance of electrical systems in a critical environment.
Ability to participate in an on-call rotation and respond to critical issues as required.

Ability to work a 24x7 shift schedule, including 12-hour shifts, in a critical environment requiring sound judgment and decision-making under pressure.
Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting and moving equipment up to 50 pounds, operating critical infrastructure, crawling in confined spaces, and manipulating small wires and components.
Ability to work at heights, use ladders, and perform extended site rounds involving significant walking and prolonged periods away from a desk.
Ability to work in industrial environments, including exposure to high noise levels requiring the use of hearing and eye protection.

Responsibilities

Conducts extensive hands-on operations and maintenance work in a critical facility environment.
Performs installation, repair, and maintenance of critical and non-critical electrical, mechanical, and plumbing/piping equipment, machinery, and controls.
Monitors operations and conducts routine assessments of building systems.
Performs tests, rounds, and analyzes data to ensure proper functioning of equipment.
Maintains, monitors, and performs preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on critical equipment, including mechanical (HVAC, chillers, plumbing), electrical (UPS, generators, switchgear), cabling, fire detection and suppression, life safety, lighting, temperature control systems, building management systems, and digital systems.
Operates and maintains non-critical equipment such as refrigeration, heat exchangers, HVAC, electrical, and hot water systems.
Monitors operation, adjusts, and maintains refrigeration, chilled water, air conditioning equipment, boilers, ventilating and hot water heaters, pumps, valves, piping, filters, and other mechanical and electrical equipment.
Records readings and makes adjustments to ensure proper operation of equipment.
Writes Method of Procedures (MOPs), Emergency Operating Procedures (EOPs), and oversees their execution.
Performs all work in strict accordance with Stream Data Centers critical operating procedures, standard operating procedures, and maintenance work instructions.
Reads blueprints, schematics, and effectively resolves equipment issues.
Oversees all work efforts, including third-party contractors, for the safe and compliant operation, maintenance, and modification of critical equipment.
Disables and enables fire alarm control panels and systems.
Creates and executes work orders through the CMMS for preventative and corrective maintenance on critical systems and building physical structure.
Consults with the Critical Facilities Manager to order necessary materials for maintenance and repairs.
Finalizes work orders by completing necessary documentation in the CMMS.
Ensures all preventive and corrective maintenance records are reviewed and stored properly.
Available to cover 24/7 onsite shifts in the event of unplanned emergencies.
Responds to on-call issues and escalates to the Critical Facilities Manager.
Performs BMS operations and analyzes data to ensure proper functions of all critical systems.
Analyzes power and cooling efficiency and maintains adequate PUE throughout the facility.
Performs Root Cause Corrective Analysis (RCCA) and reports to the Critical Facilities Manager.
Complies with Stream Data Centers departmental policies and HSE policy and procedures.
Coordinates with vendors for site visits and PM work.
Creates and tracks Purchase Orders (POs) for corrective and preventative maintenance.
