The Department of Critical Care Medicine at Mayo Clinic in Arizona is seeking a fellowship-trained Critical Care physician committed to an academic career. The role combines clinical practice with active participation in education, research, and quality improvement. The physician will work in a recently expanded, 48-bed Intensive Care Unit that treats adults with a broad range of medical and surgical critical illnesses in support of a quaternary hospital. The multidisciplinary department cares for patients with complex needs, including solid organ or stem cell transplants, cardiovascular surgery, advanced heart failure, ECMO, neurosurgery and neurology, and medical-surgical critical care needs. The attending physician serves as a team leader and is expected to communicate and collaborate effectively with the multidisciplinary, multispecialty team while upholding Mayo Clinic’s values and professionalism. Teaching opportunities include the Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine, Internal Medicine Residency, Pulmonary Critical Care Medicine Fellowship, Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant Fellowship, and learners rotating from other disciplines, academic programs, and organizations. Beginning in 2026–2027, the department will also have two Anesthesiology Critical Care Fellows. Research is a key focus for departmental development. The department is recruiting for multiple expansion positions and seeks to target one position for an investigator on track for competitive funding for Critical Care research, including clinical trials.
