About The Position

Delivers timely and effective critical care paramedic level emergency medical care to patients of all ages in both emergency and non-emergency situations, ensuring stabilization and/or resuscitation as needed due to illness or injury. Responds to ambulance calls, follows established system protocols and NIMS standards for scene management, and accurately document all care provided. When available, assists in the Emergency Department by performing advanced airway management, medication administration, and assists with delegated tasks such as assessments, vital signs, IV initiation, ECGs, and documentation, as well as decontamination, cleaning, and restocking of equipment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Graduate of an approved Paramedic course with a current Iowa and/or Illinois Paramedic certification, or an Iowa RN Exemption and/or Illinois PHRN certification, based on role and service area.
  • If working in the Genesis Market, need Iowa and Illinois within 120 days of hire or transfer.
  • Iowa Critical Care Paramedic endorsement required.
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report, meeting all organizational motor vehicle safety standards.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
  • American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required.
  • American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required.
  • Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter – Child and/or Dependent Adult Abuse training within three (3) months of hire.
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) within 6 months of hire.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) as applicable.
  • Emergency Vehicle Operator Course (EVOC) or equivalent within 1 year of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • National Incident Management System (NIMS) - 100 (preferred).
  • Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) provider (preferred).
  • Advance Medical Life Support (AMLS) provider (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Knows, understands, incorporates, and demonstrates the Trinity Health Mission, Vision, and Values in behaviors, practices, and decisions.
  • Rapidly assess patients and provide lifesaving care according to protocol.
  • Initiate basic and advanced airway management.
  • Provide direct patient care in pre-hospital and hospital settings within the Critical Care Paramedic scope of practice, including the administration of approved medications.
  • Provide age-appropriate care across neonate, infant, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations.
  • Operate ambulance safely; transport sick or injured persons while avoiding motions detrimental to patients.
  • Cover on-call hours and staff special events as directed to meet departmental needs.
  • Perform daily/weekly vehicle and rig checks; maintain, restock and clean unit after each run.
  • Manage EMS inventory; maintain pagers, radios and other equipment; report discrepancies and maintenance needs.
  • Complete patient care documentation after each call and in the Emergency Department as needed.
  • Participate in peer review and chart audits.
  • Complete all required training and maintain competency in required skills, including departmental, site specific, and organization-wide programs.
  • Maintain personal training logs and track continuing education hours (CEHs).
  • Use radios and communication systems effectively
  • Collaborate with providers, nurses and other healthcare professionals.
  • Ask for assistance when needed to ensure safety for all involved.
  • Attend required safety programs; consistently use personal protective equipment; follow departmental emergency procedures.
  • Maintain a safe working environment; report and remove unsafe equipment.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, Trinity Health’s Organizational Integrity Program, Standards of Conduct, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavior.
