Crisis Response Team Deputies are Specialized Peace Officers who are empowered to function as an investigative arm of the State’s Probate Courts. They are entrusted to exercise professional, compassionate and caring judgment in regards as to which individuals need detention and psychiatric evaluation. Responds to crisis calls from the Midland County Sheriff’s Office, Midland County Detention Center, Culver Juvenile Detention Center, other law enforcement agencies, Crisis Response Team and family services agencies, local hospitals and clinics, and members of the community, which involve a possible mentally ill subject. De-escalates crisis situations; negotiation situations, evaluates and determines if emergency hospitalization is required. Works with local Crisis Response Team facilities, local Crisis Response Team agencies, family services agencies, local hospitals, local clinics, and local doctors to assist the person suffering from a mental illness and their families with obtaining appropriate out-patient psychiatric care when there is no need for forcible emergency in-patient treatment; Executes Orders of Protective Custody; Executes Magistrate’s Orders For Emergency Detention and transports to local and State Hospitals across the State when ordered; Diverts appropriate persons from the Criminal Justice System into the Crisis Response Team System.
